Bajaj plans to launch new Chetak EV platform, CNG bikes and much more: CEO

Bajaj Auto, an automobile original equipment manufacturer (OEM) is ready to debut a number of innovative clean energy vehicles, according to a report by CNBC-TV 18. Rajiv Bajaj, CEO of Bajaj Auto announced that the business will "soon introduce another CNG motorcycle," following the recent introduction of the Freedom 125, the world's first CNG-powered motorcycle, according to the report.

The report highlighted that Bajaj Auto intends to exhibit ethanol-powered motorbikes and three-wheelers next month, with launches scheduled for FY25. In addition, the business intends to produce economical and premium electric scooters in FY25, along with a new Chetak platform that will be available early next year.

Citing the CEO on the question about the launch expectations for electric bikes, CNBC-TV 18 reported “The advantage that motorcycles had over scooters in ICE format is now gone with EVs. Scooters in the EV format hold far more potential than motorcycles.”

The efforts are reported to be the company’s wider goal to cross the monthly sales milestone of 100,000 clean energy vehicles by the festive season.

The company’s recent launch, Freedom 125, comes with a 2-litre petrol tank, 2 kg CNG cylinder, and a range of 300km. The company has already dispatched 2,000 units of the vehicle.

Meanwhile, Bajaj Auto advocates for a decrease in GST on CNG bikes. The CEO  highlighted that “If electric vehicles can be taxed at 5%, there is no reason for a vehicle driven by a cleaner fuel, such as CNG, to be taxed at 28%.”
