Ather's EL01 electric scooter is a concept vehicle that previews the company's new, modular, and cost-optimized "EL platform". The EL platform is designed to be the foundation for a new family of affordable electric scooters that will appeal to a broader customer base.
Key features of the EL platform
- Modular and scalable: The unibody steel platform can accommodate different scooter sizes, styles, and body types, from family commuters to sporty and maxi-style scooters.
- Cost-optimized: The streamlined design with fewer components is intended to reduce manufacturing costs, which will be passed on to customers.
- Integrated charging: A new Charge Drive Controller (ACDC) integrates the on-board charger with the motor controller, eliminating the need for a bulky portable charger and freeing up boot space.
- Extended service intervals: The simplified construction and enhanced brake system reduce wear and tear, doubling service intervals to 10,000 km.
- Flexible battery options: The platform is compatible with a range of battery packs, from 2 kWh to 5 kWh, with support for different cell chemistries.
- Enhanced safety: The platform debuts an Advanced Electronic Braking System (AEBS) designed to reduce stopping distances and prevent rear-wheel lockups.
Features of the EL01 concept
- Design: The EL01 concept, shown in a dual-tone neon and white color scheme, features a wide handlebar, a single-piece seat, a rectangular LED headlight mounted on the handlebars, and a sleek LED taillamp.
- Hub-mounted motor: In a shift from Ather's current belt-driven scooters, the EL01 concept features a swingarm-mounted hub motor.
- Display options: The EL platform can accommodate various screen sizes, with the EL01 concept showcasing a 7-inch touch screen.
- Suspension: The concept features a telescopic fork and a single, repositioned rear shock absorber designed for better ride comfort.
Production and availability
- The first production scooter based on the EL platform is expected to launch during the festive season of 2026.
- Models based on the EL platform will be manufactured at Ather's new facility in Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar, Maharashtra.
- The new EL platform products will coexist with Ather's current models, the 450 and Rizta, rather than replacing them.
