Affordable EV with fridge: Kia unviels EV5

According to Bloomberg,

Kia

revealed the EV5 on Thursday during an event called EV Day that is geared toward millennial families. The long-range variant, which is equipped with an 88kWh battery, will be able to go 720 kilometers on a single charge, while the normal version will have a range of 530 kilometers (330 miles) on account of its 64 kilowatt-hour battery in the Chinese market.

According to a statement from the firm, Kia will provide models for the Korean market with slightly smaller batteries and adjust the driving range to satisfy regional requirements.

For storing food and beverages, there is also a 4-liter refrigerator and warming device. Around 2025, factories in China and Korea are expected to start producing these cars.

According to reports, Kia also unveiled two concept cars: the EV3, a smaller version of its flagship EV9, and the EV4, a sporty-looking four-door sedan. These three models are essential to Kia's plan to release more reasonably priced EVs, with starting prices between $35,000 and $50,000, in an effort to encourage the wider adoption of electric vehicles. The most expensive variants will additionally cost up to $80,000.

According to Chief Executive Officer Ho Sung Song at the EV Day event in Yeoju city, which is a suburb of Seoul, Kia's more compact EVs act as the brand's "entry point for customers" looking for affordable and practical charging options. By 2030, the company hopes to sell 1.6 million electric vehicles.

Kia has established a target to build eight production facilities by 2025 in order to meet this objective. The corporation will concentrate on making small- and medium-sized electric vehicles (EVs) in Europe, while mid- and large-sized vehicle production will take center stage in China. The creation of "strategically designed EV models tailored for emerging markets," as stated by Song, will be Kia's main focus in the Indian market. However, specifics were not given.

Song underlined the need to thoroughly investigate ways to lower the cost of EVs. He said, "This is very important for us; how we can make the vehicles below around $25,000 in the market."
