Tata’s Most Affordable Electric Car in India : The Tata Tiago EV

Tata Motors has had great success in recent years with their electric cars. That claim is supported by the 89% market share and over 45,000 EVs now on the road. While the Nexon EV accounts for a sizable portion of those sales, the Tigor EV is also growing. Everyone anticipated that the Tiago EV would follow soon after the Tigor EV's introduction last year. Tata Motors has waited a while to introduce the hatchback's electric version, though. They have made an effort to make the Tiago EV seem like a distinct product throughout this period rather than just another variation or the hatchback variant of the Tigor EV.

Earlier in September, Tata Motors introduced the Tiago EV, the most reasonably priced electric vehicle in the nation, at an initial launch price of Rs. 8.49 lakh (ex-showroom). The Tiago EV has already received more than 20,000 reservations, and deliveries are now scheduled to start in January 2023. There is presently a four-month long queue for the electric car.

Battery & Range

Two rechargeable battery configurations are available for the Tiago EV: "Long Range" with a 24 kWh battery capacity and a stated range of 315 km, and "Medium Range" with 19.2 kWh battery capacity and a reported range of 250 km. The Extended Range

Tiago EV

is powered by a motor that produces 74 BHP and 114 Nm, whereas the Mid Range Tiago EV's engine produces 60 BHP and 110 Nm. In order to meet customer requirements at the date of shipment, Tata is giving priority to the manufacture of said 24kWh battery pack variations. Prices for the four available varieties, the XE, XT, XZ+, and XZ+ Tech Lux, begin at Rs. 8.49 lakh.

Design

Although the hatchback's main design and style are the same across the electric and petrol versions, there are a few subtle differences that help differentiate it from its ICE cousins. A black plastic plate with the '.EV' emblem, which is also visible on the front arches, replaces the front bonnet. Tata's tri-arrow motif is prominent on the bumper, while blue highlights on the nose are distinctive to Tata EVs. The sole distinguishing feature on the 14-inch alloy wheels in the back is the 'TIAGO.EV' emblem. Teal Blue, Daytona Grey, Tropical Mist, Pristine White, and Midnight Plum are the 5 available colours.

Features

The inside of the

Tiago EV

has quality leatherette seating with the recognisable tri-arrow design and blue highlights that are brought over from the exterior. The Tigor EV's display cluster is being used, and the gear shift has indeed been swapped out with a rotary dial. A 7-inch touchscreen from Harman with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, automated headlights, rain-sensing wipes, adaptive weather control, power steering, driver-seat height adjustment, and an 8-speaker audio system with steering-mounted audio controls are all just a few of the amenities available on the Tata Tiago EV.

Speed & Acceleration

Now that the Tata Tiago EV and

Tigor

are comparable, their speed and acceleration will be identical. However, these vehicles have different weights. Tiago is predicted to go from 0 to 100 in around 13 seconds and have a peak speed of 125 kmph. The specific numbers for the electric Tiago will be known when you actually drive it.

Affordable?

Tata Motors has already introduced the Tiago EV. It becomes the brand's most relatively affordable electric car, with prices ranging at 8.49 lakhs set for the base XE model with a 19.2 kWh battery and rising to 11.79 lakhs for the top-of-the-line, high capacity XZ+ Tech Lux version. This will have a crazy efficiency of 315 km and 24kWh of battery capacity. Beginning on October 10, 2022, the Tata Tiago E has already started accepting bookings for the said model and received a whopping response of 20000+ bookings until now.

Talking about affordable EV cars, Tata is not the only one in the market. Recently, companies like PMV & MG are stepping up to introduce their cheaper EV segment in the upcoming future. Until now, the only competitor that remains in the line includes Citreon C3 & Mahindra eKUV, which are eyeing their launch next year.
