Electric Revolution: The Story Behind LML eMotion ev Scooter

LML eMotion

, a brand traditionally known for its stylish and innovative two-wheelers in India, has marked a remarkable journey from the early bulky scooter days to sleek electric vehicles. From its inception, LML eMotion scooters have strived to be the leaders in the automotive industry, prioritizing cutting-edge technology of contemporary times and exceptional customer experiences. Meanwhile, the announcement of the company’s entry into the Indian EV landscape with its continuing legacy indicates an energy shift in the Indian automotive industry.

A Legacy of Innovation: From Vespa to LML Select

LML's story began in 1983 with the launch of a series of stylish Vespa scooters. These iconic vehicles revolutionized the Indian two-wheeler market, introducing a new standard for personal commuting that combined international flair, comfort, and performance. The Vespa captured the hearts of Indian riders, offering a taste of global sophistication previously unavailable.

A decade later, in 1993, LML unveiled the LML Select. This new model incorporated cutting-edge technology and a modern aesthetic, solidifying LML's position as the preferred choice for the then generation. The LML Select encompassed the spirit of stylish and dependable commuting.

LML's commitment to innovation was further recognized in 2000 by the Indian Ministry of Science and Technology. The company received this prestigious acknowledgement for its consistent success in introducing new models and upgrades, featuring more fuel-efficient engines, advanced electrical systems, adherence to stricter emission regulations, and superior styling. Over the next three decades, the company transformed from a manufacturer of stylish LML eMotion scooters into a prominent two-wheeler company. The brand became synonymous with innovation, superior engineering, a robust distribution network, and a diverse product portfolio that catered to the evolving tastes of a new-age India.

LML Graptor: Embracing Change

In 2004, LML marked its entry into the 150cc lifestyle segment with the launch of the LML Graptor.  This milestone represented the company's first indigenously designed motorcycle, a collaboration with the renowned Italian design house Ugolini. This launch marked a significant shift for LML, transitioning the company from a single-product entity to a multi-product two-wheeler manufacturer. Further solidifying this change, 2004 witnessed the simultaneous launch of three distinct models: the LML Graptor (150cc), the LML Freedom Prima (110cc), and the LML Freedom Prima (125cc).

LML's commitment to progress continued in 2009 with the introduction of a four-stroke scooter, a technological advancement over its two-stroke counterparts.

The Electric Revolution: LML eMotion Enters the EV Arena

Fast forward to 2022, and LML embarked on a new chapter with the establishment of LML eMotion and the announcement of its first electric scooter, the LML Star. As the company plans to enter the EV industry it has already announced a few upcoming products. This marked LML's foray into the

electric vehicle

industry, a strategic decision reflecting the company's commitment to sustainable and environmentally conscious mobility solutions.

The Orion defies conventional design language, which is expected to set a new benchmark for engineering and design once it is launched. Some of its key features released by the company include a hydroformed 6061 alloy frame for lightweight agility, tilted butterfly handlebars for enhanced comfort, a pedelec system for additional power, an IP67-rated battery for all-weather performance, advanced safety features with smart telematics, haptic feedback for a more responsive ride, and in-built GPS with predictive route sensors.

The LML Moonshot: A Bold Leap Forward

The LML Moonshot pushes the boundaries of electric scooter design. This unique model is a "crossover" concept, blending the essence of a bicycle with the thrill of a motorcycle. The Moonshot is the embodiment of adventure, offering riders an unparalleled experience that merges creativity and a spirit of exploration. Here's a closer look at what makes the Moonshot so special:

Urban Explorer:  The Moonshot's design philosophy is truly "hyper," reflecting the agility and power of a puma or cheetah.  It seamlessly transitions from handling city traffic to tackling errands with ease. Riders can choose between a pedelec mode for assisted pedalling or a throttle mode for a more powerful ride. This versatility caters to a range of riding styles and situations.

Designed to Ride, Engineered to Fly:  The Moonshot boasts exceptional acceleration, capable of reaching speeds from 0 to 70 kilometres per hour in a remarkably short time.  This electric scooter is engineered for performance, offering a thrilling riding experience.

Gadget or Bike? The Moonshot blurs the lines between a traditional bike and a high-tech device. It features a portable battery, selectable surge and city modes, and a "fly-by-wire" throttle for enhanced control. This feature-rich electric scooter caters to riders who seek a technologically advanced and engaging riding experience.

What to expect?

Although the company has not launched any of the products yet, the specifications released and marketing have already created enough buzz in the market. From its past legacy and long-held brand value, it is evident that the company is dedicated to continuously enhancing its products, focusing on elevating design and engineering to create vehicles that redefine the concept of mobility. By actively listening to and understanding the evolving needs of global consumers, LML eMotion is a potential candidate among the electric mobility OEMs who will be a significant stake holder in the journey of India’s energy shift.
