The SUV's aesthetic is a nod to the fluidity and power of ocean waves, featuring a sleek, aerodynamic silhouette with the signature "Ocean X" front styling. This design philosophy is not just skin deep; it's integrated into the vehicle's performance through technologies like Intelligent Torque Active Control (iTAC) and Cell-to-body (CTB). The latter integrates the battery directly into the vehicle's structure, enhancing space efficiency and vehicle stability.

Bold and Aerodynamic Design

Inspired by the ocean, the Sealion 7 has a sleek, futuristic aesthetic crafted by Wolfgang Egger, BYD’s Global Design Director. With its dynamic curves and aerodynamic structure, the SUV is not only visually appealing but also highly efficient. It is designed similarly to the Seal's LED headlights. The Sealion 7 features air curtains on the bumpers to improve the electric SUV's aerodynamics even further. The car will most likely have a sloping roofline and flush door handles on the side, giving it a coupe appearance. With a motorised tailgate, it features a connected LED DRL and taillamp at the back.

Advanced Performance Capabilities

The Sealion 7 is equipped with BYD’s Intelligent Torque Active Control (iTAC) system and the Cell-to-Body (CTB) technology. These features provide outstanding stability, safety, and road performance, making it a standout in the mid-size electric SUV segment.

Exceptional Battery Range

The vehicle features an AWD powertrain, Moreover, powered by a blade battery, the vehicle can reach 0-100 km/h in just 4.5 seconds. In the global market, the vehicle comes in three battery packs. However, it is yet to be known which variant of the vehicle will be launched in India. However, Market analysts are suggesting that it might appear in two battery options—82.5 kWh and 91.3 kW which will power the Sealion 7 to deliver an expected driving range of up to 502 kilometres on a single charge, ensuring a worry-free long-distance driving experience. Judging from the globally available Sealipon-7, the vehicle may come with the following luxury features–

BYD’s Journey in India

BYD has been operational in India for over 17 years and is steadily expanding its footprint in the market. The company plans to increase its dealership network from 27 to 40 outlets by the end of 2025, reflecting its commitment to the Indian EV market. However, the company’s Chinese origin impedes its expansion in India. In 2023, the government of India, citing security concerns declined to let BYD set up a $1bn worth factory in India. With the company’s new launch, it will be interesting to note the consumer behaviour of Indians.

The Sealion 7 is expected to strengthen BYD’s position in India alongside its existing models such as the BYD Atto 3 and BYD E6. With the electric four-wheeler market expected to grow up to 10% in 2025, BYD’s advanced EV offerings are well-timed to meet the demand for reliable and efficient electric vehicles.

Scheduled for launch in India by the first quarter of 2025, the Sealion 7 is poised to make a significant impact. With an expected price tag starting around Rs 45 lakh to Rs 55 lakh (ex-showroom), it enters the fray alongside competitors like the Kia EV6 and Hyundai Ioniq
