UP to set up robust EV charging stations throughout state
To continuously push and promote environmentally friendly transportation throughout the state, the Uttar Pradesh government is planning to build a strong network of electric vehicle (EV) charging stations.
The project will be carried out by Uttar Pradesh Renewable and EV Infrastructure Limited (UPREV), a designated corporation focused on accelerating electric vehicle adoption and developing state-wide charging infrastructure.
Citing officials, the statesman reported on Sunday that the extensive network of EV charging stations would make it easier for citizens to switch to electric vehicles. This effort not only corresponds with the state's aim of lowering carbon emissions but also promotes a green and energy-efficient future for Uttar Pradesh.
According to the report, the state administration has come up with a plan to establish EV charging stations throughout Uttar Pradesh.
Moreover, UPREV will establish charging stations in significant cities, along major roads, and in metropolitan areas. The proposal would employ a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) approach, which will stimulate private investment and accelerate infrastructure development.
Officials stated that state government land will be made accessible for these charging stations in coordination with other government agencies, allowing EV charging points to be installed at distribution company (discom) offices, substations, and public areas.
Additionally, the UP government has reduced power costs expressly for EV charging. According to new rules from the Uttar Pradesh Energy Regulatory Commission (UPERC), public charging stations will now have charges that are even lower than the average energy cost.
This decision will make EV charging more inexpensive for vehicle owners, encouraging more individuals to use electric vehicles. The government's focus on offering improved EV charging rates is projected to expand the usage of green energy in transportation and the number of EV users across the state.
Furthermore, in collaboration with the national government, UPREV has secured a Rs 2,000 crore subsidy under the Pradhan Mantri E-Drive Yojana to build a network of charging stations.
The update seeks to establish Uttar Pradesh as a major hub for electric cars, representing a significant step towards lowering carbon emissions and promoting self-reliance in transportation.
