Considering the consistently dropping Air Quality Index (AQI) in Delhi, the Prime Minister&rsquo;s Office (PMO) has taken charge by directing strict actions on pollution-causing vehicles while calling to expand the overall EV ecosystem of Delhi.&nbsp;

The update was discussed in the recently concluded high-level PMO meeting called to discuss the air quality in the city hitting severe and very poor levels.&nbsp;

Presided by the Prime Minister's Principal Secretary, the authorities, in the meeting, were instructed to step up their inspections of automobiles that violate emission standards and pollute the environment, India Today has reported. During the conference, it was also noted that 37% of Delhi-NCR vehicles still adhere to the obsolete BS I to BS III emission standards.

The meeting gave a call to expand the electric vehicle (EV) ecosystem in the capital by promoting its adoption and presence on the road.&nbsp;

The PMO instructed the officials to deliver timely development of EV charging stations, infrastructure, and provide subsidies. Additionally, officials were instructed to decrease riders&rsquo; reliance on petrol and diesel automobiles, India Today report added.
 
According to the report, PMO was keeping a close eye on pollution sources, and in the next several days, action is probably going to get more intense.
 
Since Nov.11, Delhi&rsquo;s AQI has been categorised as either 'very poor' or 'severe' in different locations, with allegations that the government is manipulating the pollutant data.&nbsp; As per the report, the condition is due to a combination of stubble-burning and vehicular emissions.
 
By updating the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP), the central pollution control watchdog, the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM), has already tightened emergency pollution control efforts.

All government and commercial organisations in Delhi have been required to adopt staggered working hours and compulsorily implement work from home for 50% their workers.

Blue Energy Motors, the alternate-fuel commercial vehicle maker backed by Essar, Iveco, Nitin Kamath and Omnitex Industries, is pushing toward 95% localisation in its heavy trucks as it prepares to launch its own battery pack manufacturing line. The Maharashtra-based company currently rolls out 55-tonne LNG and electric trucks from its Chakan plant near Pune.

Although about 50% of the parts used in its electric trucks are domestic, about 70% of its LNG models are localised. Over the next 12 to 14 months, the company&rsquo;s goal is to increase localisation to over 95%. Anand Mimani, CEO of Blue Energy Motors' EV and new energy division, stated, "We are establishing a battery pack line in India, and only the cells may still need to be imported."

The update came as the company&rsquo;s initiative to expand its presence.&nbsp;

To assist fleet operators making the switch to electric powertrains, Blue Energy intends to install battery-swapping and charging facilities along important logistics corridors. As of now, the company claims that its EV trucks have a range of 150&ndash;200 kilometres, depending on operating conditions

The company recently secured $50 million to expand operations and launch a "energy-as-a-service" model in which it will own the batteries and operate swap stations nationwide. Blue Energy plans to put about 2,000 LNG and electric trucks on the road in the following year.

To assist fleet operators making the switch to electric powertrains, Blue Energy intends to install battery-swapping and charging facilities along important logistics corridors.

The Italian automaker will continue its three hybrid versions currently available in the market, for as long as possible.&nbsp; In an interview with Autocar, Stephan Winkelmann said, “When we decided to do the first step of our strategy, to have all the line-up new and hybridised, this was a big effort for the company. For the last four years, we have worked very hard on this, and now we see that this was – you never know, but – the right decision. Therefore, we think that to be very focused on a step-by-step approach on [electrification] was the right decision,” the report added Winkelmann stated that Lamborghini's first electric vehicle, which was derived from the past year's segment-bending Lanzador concept, is a brand-new model rather than a substitute for any existing vehicle. It is less likely to have an effect on the company's sales volumes, and it may even boost them. Citing Winkelmann Autocar further reported, “We have enough time to decide if we need to accelerate or delay the introduction of the electric cars,” he said. “So far, we are not thinking about delaying anything. We said we want to have our first electric car by the end of this decade, and this is something which we will continue to foster because we said it has to be an additional car - a fourth model.” Although Winkelmann recognised that the EV adoption curve is not "as steep as forecasted," he added that this is "even more" true for Lamborghini's super-sports vehicle market, meaning the company's plan to "stay hybrid as long as possible is really the right one," the report said.&nbsp;

Since BYD cannot commit the FDI that this EV strategy requires, it is excluded from consideration. In a sense, BYD is out as FDI will need permissions. This means that if it must arrive, it will be required to pay the current 70–100% duty,” the official stated. To qualify for the reduced import tariff rate of 15 per cent, the EV policy stipulates a minimum investment and a three-year deadline for the establishment of manufacturing facilities in India to begin commercial production of e-vehicles. Aiming to prevent opportunistic purchases or takeovers of Indian enterprises, the Centre modified the Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) policy, notably Press Note 3, in April 2020. According to the new regulation, an entity of a nation that borders India on land, or a person of any such nation, may only make investments through the government route if the beneficial owner of the investment is located there.&nbsp; Press Note 3's revised guidelines become effective on April 22, 2020. According to the guidelines outlined in Press Note 3, any investment proposal from China or land-border countries will be subject to a thorough review and may only be submitted through the appropriate channels. Considering Beijing is one of the biggest competitors in the EV market, India's unwillingness to provide advantages to Chinese EV manufacturers through its recently announced policy is noteworthy. In terms of EV production, sales, and exports, China is a major worldwide leader. According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), Beijing will account for more than 35 per cent of outbound exports of electric cars in 2022 and is both the world's top manufacturer and exporter of these vehicles. China accounted for around 60% of worldwide sales of electric automobiles in 2022, making it the world leader in this regard. China now has more than half of all-electric vehicles on the road worldwide. According to an IEA assessment, the nation has already surpassed its 2025 goal for the sale of new energy vehicles. According to a Reuters article on April 12 that cited research company Rho Motion, global EV sales increased to 1.23 million units in March 2024, with purchases in China climbing by 27% and the US by 15%.
