The President-elect announced the tariff imposition on the top trading partners of the USA–Mexico, Canada and China on the social media platform Truth Social.&nbsp; Earlier, the Inflation Reduction Act has already introduced various tax credits for EV companies to set up their manufacturing units in the USA. In fact, according to a report by nrdc.org, the USA has already surpassed China as the most favourable country for EV investments. Now, with the tariff hanging over, it will be interesting to note the reactions of the worldwide EV companies.&nbsp; The effect&nbsp; According to research by economists at the Peterson Institute of International Economics, Trump's policies might wind up costing the average American household more than $2,600 a year. Nonetheless, it seems that both Republicans and Democrats support the concept of increasing tariffs.&nbsp; Free market analysts and advocates of globalisation have shown serious concern over Trump’s decision, as the tariff wars between countries may come at a cost of inflation and global slowdown. Amid such volatility, the comparatively nascent market of electric vehicles has also come under threat.&nbsp;Although, as per studies, the USA only accounts for 7-10% contribution to the global supply chain of EVs, the direct repercussions will be faced by the companies who have their manufacturing or assembly units in the USA.&nbsp;&nbsp; Recent reports by Bloomberg have shown that BYD intends to reduce prices to tackle tariffs and not shift the burden on consumers. However, in the USA, approximately 70% of the sold EVs are domestically manufactured while $19 billion worth of electric vehicles are imported, according to the USA customs clearance website. Hence, it can be said that after the tariffs, the global EV industry may be affected by at least $19 billion. Moreover, the raw material imported from other countries to manufacture EVs may also add to the losses, taking the number to another higher value.&nbsp; Impact on India&nbsp; India is an import-oriented country whose overall trade remains in deficit, however, India has a trade surplus with the USA. The EV companies planning to launch themselves in the US market might have to change their plans. Based on the all-new Gen 3 platform, the fleet will have electric scooters ranging from Rs 79,999 for the S1 X (2kWh) to Rs 1,69,999 for the S1 Pro+ (5.3kWh). Bhavish Aggarwal, chairman and managing director, of Ola Electric has said, “With our first generation of scooters, we offered customers a truly aspirational electric scooter that kickstarted the EV revolution in the country. With Gen 2, we made our scooters smarter and more accessible by expanding our portfolio with scooters for every Indian across every price range,” a press release by the company reported. He further said, “Today, with Gen 3, we are taking the EV two-wheeler industry to the ‘next level’. Gen 3 is bringing unmatched performance, superior efficiency, and reinventing benchmarks we set for ourselves, which will change the industry all over again,” the release added. The flagship models in the Gen 3 portfolio are the <a href="https://evindia.online/product/ola-s1-pro-plus-gen3-5kwh" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0); background-color: transparent;">S1 Pro+ 5.3kWh</a> (with 4680 Bharat Cell) and 4kWh, which cost Rs 1,69,999 and Rs 1,54,999, respectively. The S1 Pro comes with 4kWh and 3kWh battery options, which cost Rs 1,34,999 and Rs 1,14,999, respectively. The cost of the S1 X range is Rs 79,999 for 2kWh, Rs 89,999 for 3kWh, and Rs 99,999 for 4kWh. The vehicle will be available in two body designs: the Taycan sedan and the Taycan Cross Turismo estate. The Tycan Sedan will be available in standard, 4S, Turbo, and Turbo S variants, while the Taycan Cross Turismo estate will only be available in 4S, Turbo, and Turbo S.&nbsp; Porsche's first all-electric vehicle, the Taycan, is based on the same platform as sister manufacturer Audi's newly introduced e-tron GT in the nation. Similar to the brand's Panamera, the Taycan is a four-door coupe with a design that follows the 2015 Mission E concept. A full-width lightbar at the back and headlamps with four LED DRL elements are two examples of the Taycan's recognisable Porsche design traits. Ampere Launches Magnus Neo: Sets to travel from Bengaluru to Global Expo at Delhi

The Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025 is all set to begin on January 17 in Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi. The event will stage the head-to-head competitive launch of electric SUVs — the Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara and the Hyundai Creta Electric. The Creta Electric will be the Hyundai's first mass-market EV in India while Maruti Suzuki will make its debut in the Indian EV market with the e-Vitara. The premiere of these two electric SUVs at the event has been confirmed by both automakers. Hyundai has revealed that there will be two battery pack options available for the Creta Electric: a 42 kWh and a 51.4 kWh model. The 51.4 kWh battery has a range of 473 km, while the 42 kWh battery has a range of 390 km, according to ARAI. The Crerta Electric will come in five versions including Executive, Smart, Smart (O), Premium, and Excellence.&nbsp;According to Hyundai, the vehicle takes just 7.9 seconds for the 51.4 kWh model to accelerate from 0 to 10 kmph. In terms of charging, the Creta EV, while using a DC fast charger, can get charged from 10 per cent to 80 per cent in only 58 minutes. Meanwhile, using an 11 kW AC home charger can charge the vehicle from 10 per cent to 100 per cent in 4 hours. The e-Vitara will have three powertrain options: a 49 kWh, 61 kWh front-wheel-drive (2WD), and 61 kWh four-wheel-drive (4WD), according to information Suzuki has disclosed for the global market. The 49 kWh version generates 142 horsepower, and the 61 kWh 2WD and 49 kWh versions both provide 189 Nm of torque. With 172 horsepower from the front motor and 64 horsepower from the rear motor, the 61 kWh 4WD variant produces 181 horsepower and 300 Nm of torque overall. Hyundai has announced that the Creta Electric's infotainment system and instrument dashboard will both have 10.25-inch dual displays. The new technology can provide a range of up to 620 miles(1,000 kilometres) on a single charge, according to the company. If achieved, the new technology can solve the “range anxiety,” a major hurdle in EV adoption.&nbsp;&nbsp; Honda announced a demonstration production line in November for its future solid-state batteries, which the Japanese manufacturer intends to incorporate into its EVs on a mass market basis in the second half of the decade. President and representative director of Honda R&amp;D, Keiji Otsu, said in a statement, "The all-solid-state battery is an innovative technology that will be a game changer in this EV era. Replacing engines that have been supporting the advancements of automobiles to date, batteries will be the key factor of electrification," Live Science reported. Compared to the liquid lithium-ion batteries featured in modern EVs, these solid-state batteries are anticipated to be 25% less expensive to build, 50% smaller, and 35% lighter. However, Honda's solid-state cells are too small to be utilised in any of the company's current vehicle models, which is the main obstacle to the technology. Beginning in 2025, the new facility aims to address that issue.

The all-new lithium metal battery uses a triple-layer solid polymer electrolyte to provide extra protection against fire. However, it is yet to be clarified when this technology will get into commercial space. In the field of EV battery technology, the DGIST's lithium battery for electric vehicles may transition the existing Industry into a new age. In conventional solid polymer electrolyte battery packs, lithium-ion creates tiny tree-like structures called dendrites when the battery is being charged and discharged. These dendrites can weaken a battery's internal connections, greatly raising the possibility of explosions and fires. For lithium battery packs to reach their full potential, this risk factor has proven crucial. The innovative triple-layer electrolyte engineering of the new battery is intended to improve performance and structural and thermal safety, according to DGIST. This battery features a solid central layer that enhances the battery's structural integrity and guards against thermal issues like fire, while the soft outside layers guarantee optimal contact with the electrodes. Decabromodiphenyl ethane, a fire suppressant, is present in high concentrations together with zeolite and lithium salt. The total strength of the battery pack is said to be strengthened by this. Additionally, the DGIST asserts that this battery pack retains a sizable amount of power even after numerous charging cycles, in addition to improving fire safety. The battery is said to retrain 87.9% of its power after 1,000 cycles of charging and draining. The majority of the batteries used in the current generation of EVs lose 20–30% of their capacity during the same number of charging cycles, therefore this is yet another major advancement in battery technology.

The festive month of October has established a new record for electric vehicle (EV) sales by breaking the monthly EV registrations (covering all categories) record of 200,000 units recorded previously. The sales across all segments rose at the uptide of Diwali celebrations and other festivals. During the month, overall EV registrations reached an all-time high of 2.18 lakh units, the biggest monthly volume ever recorded. This underlines an increase from 1.6 lakh registrations in September 2024 to 1.4 lakh units in October 2023. The previous high was achieved in March of this year at 2.13 lakh units, owing to pre-buying activity ahead of revisions to the subsidy plan. As per Vahan statistics, the electric two-wheeler industry reached a new high in October selling 1.39 lakh units, surpassing the previous highest of 1.08 lakh units in July 2024. Ola Electric, which has been the market leader, sold around 42,000 units during October. The sales saw a huge surge from 24,700 units in September and 23,900 units in October 2023. Meanwhile, TVS Motor regained its second position in the electric two-wheeler market, selling above 30,000 units in October, from 18,218 units recorded last month. Moreover, Bajaj Auto stood in third place, selling some 28,190 units compared to 19,200 units last month and 9,070 units sold in the last year. The company has also rolled out a low-priced variant, Chetak 2903, to garner increased sales. Ather Energy's ₹4,500-crore IPO saw more than 16,000 registrations in October compared with 12,850 in September.

The proposed projects included electric automobiles, a 50 GWh battery facility, electric powertrains, a lithium refinery, and other industrial units. JSW is also looking into technology transfer agreements with a Chinese cell technology vendor to help it achieve its EV targets, according to the article. The firm intends to enhance its EV supply chain, particularly because its primary subsidiary, JSW Steel, currently supplies steel to MG Motor India's electric vehicles. Furthermore, JSW Group is also developing its partnership with MG Motor India through a variety of activities targeted at increasing the automaker's footprint in the Indian market. This collaboration intends to speed the adoption of electric vehicles, notably in the commercial sector, by increasing the number of charging stations along high-traffic routes. According to the memorandum of agreement (MoU) under the new partnership, Tata Motors will be responsible for identifying and proposing dealerships for new charging stations. On the other hand, Delta Electronics will provide the required charging gear and Thunderplus Solutions will be in charge of installing and operating the stations. Vinay Pathak, vice-president and business head, SCV &amp; PU, Tata Motors Commercial Vehicles, stated that the availability of these charging sites will encourage consumers to choose electric commercial vehicles. "Our goal is to make emissions-free cargo transportation more accessible. Expanding charging infrastructure on high-traffic routes would encourage more customers to choose electric commercial vehicles and enhance vehicle uptime, resulting in improved revenues and profitability, all while contributing to a cleaner, greener environment," Pathak explained. Citing Pathak, a report by Business Standard stated, “Installing fast chargers at our dealerships makes it convenient for them to gain access at a familiar location with a reliable charging facility”. Speaking on the partnership, Niranjan Nayak, managing director of Delta Electronics India Pvt Ltd, stated that Delta aims to create creative, clean, and energy-efficient solutions for a brighter tomorrow. He further emphasized that their relationship with Tata Motors and Thunderplus will enable the firm to contribute substantially to India's electric freight ecosystem. Delta's innovative charging system will play a critical role in improving the electric commercial vehicle experience for customers across the country. The agreement is expected to improve the charging infrastructure needed to serve Tata Motors' Ace EV, a small commercial vehicle (SCV) built for last-mile delivery. Based on Tata's EVOGEN platform, the Ace EV has innovative technologies such as a battery management system, Fleet Edge telematics, and durable components to assure peak performance. It has a certified range of 154 kilometres on a single charge and is driven by a single electric motor producing 36 horsepower and 130 Newton-meters of torque. The vehicle also incorporates a lightweight container with a cargo space of 208 cubic feet, which can handle slopes of up to 22% when fully loaded.
