Tripura to establish EV charging stations in Agartala: Power Minister

The stations would be installed at the Agartala suburbs of Chandrapur, Nagerjala, Radhanagar, and the TSECL corporate office.

Tripura to establish EV charging stations in Agartala: Power Minister

Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL) decided to install four electric vehicle charging stations in and around Agartala, according to information released by Tripura Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath on Thursday.


A request for the required funding has been made to the Union Ministry of Power's Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE). 


There are currently no public EV charging stations in Tripura. The minister stated that the state's e-vehicle policy had already been endorsed by the government.


The Power Minister stated, "In our state, TSECL has been designated as the nodal agency for electric vehicle charging stations," in an exclusive interview with ANI. In accordance with the e-vehicle policy of Tripura, the Transport Department would handle the logistical aspects, including land, labour, etc.


Through TSECL, a proposal has been made to BEE about the allocation of funding for the installation of four EV charging stations. The stations would be installed at the Agartala suburbs of Chandrapur, Nagerjala, Radhanagar, and the TSECL corporate office. The minister claims that the project has been a joint effort between the departments of power and transportation.


Nath said that the project is receiving attention from both the transportation and electricity agencies. He further mentions that the railway line’s electrification will also be finished in the next months. 


According to Nath, approximately 90% of the electrification-related work has already been completed, and the remaining portion will shortly be finished. Moreover, Nath highlights that at the federal level, this initiative is highly prioritised
