Reliance Retail join hands with GRAB to increase its sustainability efforts
As part of their commitment to minimising environmental impact, Reliance Retail, the retail division of Reliance Industries Limited (RIL), partnered with GRAB to send orders using
electric vehicles
(EVs). According to Jio Mart, roughly 300 three-wheeled electric vehicles were deployed for delivery to specific clients. The batteries and recharge stations are likewise owned and maintained by the unit. The business declared its commitment to assisting a green transport system. This entails controlling fuel use, cutting down on vehicle emissions, improving safety, alleviating traffic, and facilitating social and financial access. In order to prevent harmful consequences from being felt by future generations, it is essential to maintain these elements at levels that will not harm the ecosystem.
To achieve its Net Carbon Zero objective, Reliance believes that increasing the energy efficiency of its activities is essential. Technology advancements and improved maintenance practices led to significant energy savings of 2.53 million GJ (gigajoules) in the fiscal year 2022–23.
To utilise less energy, Reliance Retail has initiated a number of programmes. One of these initiatives is Project LED, which calls for the use of LED lights in all of its locations. Additionally, they have put solar panels at points in their own supply chain.
Through the installation of about 500 kW of solar panels, Sultanpur NDC of Reliance Retail took a step towards sustainability. The electricity board received the extra power generated, which decreased their cost. They supported renewable energy and sustainable growth by sending about 5,000 units per month to the power grid using 1,532 solar panels and 7 inverters.
In addition to this, Reliance Retail has started using novel energy-saving techniques, such as covering building roofs, walls, exterior surfaces and windows with unique reflecting material. By keeping structures cooler, this coating helps decrease the demand for air conditioning.
At Reliance Retail, the staff in charge of supply chain management also plays a role in lowering pollution. By ensuring that trucks turn off their engines when they are waiting to save gasoline, they have taken efforts to reduce pollutants, noise, and fuel usage.
