JD Power report: Users prefer Tesla Superchargers over any other brand
The "2024 Electric Vehicle Experience Public Charging Study" results released by JD Power show that the users feel Tesla Superchargers are providing the best charging experience by a wider margin than any other company.
The study praises Telsa superchargers for being robustly built and having world-class reliability. Stating these factors as the reason, the report suggested that every automaker chooses to employ Tesla's NACS (North American Charging Standard) for their EVs. The study also throws light on the EV owners’, preference to use Tesla Superchargers irrespective of the brand.
Outperforming the majority of its primary competitors, Tesla’s EV charging network scored 658/1000 points and 731/1000 points in the 'Level 2 charging station' and 'DC fast charger' categories. With 626/1000 points in the Level 2 charging station category and 627/1000 points in the DC fast charger category, ChargePoint came in second on the list—much lower than Tesla's Superchargers.
"Overall, both Tesla and non-Tesla owners find charging their vehicles at Tesla Supercharger facilities is most satisfying," said Brent Gruber, executive director of J.D. Power's EV practice.
He further added, “The opportunity to charge at the extensive network of Tesla chargers, which was previously inaccessible to non-owners of Tesla vehicles, such as those driving EVs made by Ford or Rivian and now having access to the Supercharger network, is greatly appreciated by them. Even with the recent flood of non-Tesla vehicles using the Supercharger facilities (which has led to some complaints), Tesla owners continue to value the network's convenience of charging and payment. But since the start of the year, J.D. Power has noticed a drop in Tesla owners' contentment with the availability of Superchargers."
