IAMI requests Delhi authorities to extend deadline for aggregator services vehicles to switch to EV

The digital services industry's representative, the Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI) has pushed the Delhi government to extend the deadline for its Delhi Motor Vehicle Aggregator and Delivery Service Scheme, 2023. The prolongation is due to operational problems and a lack of response from gig workers and aggregators.

IAMAI has provided the Delhi government with proposals for the Delhi Motor Vehicle Aggregator and Delivery Service Scheme, 2023, as well as the online monitoring platform. Approved in October of last year, the goal of this programme is to enhance the national capital's transport services while promoting sustainable and green mobility.

To decrease air pollution and encourage environmentally friendly transportation, the programme requires commercial vehicle fleets to progressively switch to electric mobility. By 2030, all vehicle fleets operated by aggregators, delivery service providers, and e-commerce entities in Delhi must be electric fleets.

A notice from the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways was used by IAMAI to emphasise the difficulty of incorporating two-wheelers into the passenger transportation scene. They suggested adding EV bikes with reduced speeds to the webpage that tracks the programme.

In addition, IAMAI suggested that rather than requiring aggregators to reach EV requirements every 14 days, the site should enable them to do so within six months. To ensure that EV mandates apply to the head-adjusted total, they also recommended deducting from the total additional vehicle induction any vehicle off-boarded by the Transport Department or the aggregator.
