Electric vehicle division of TII plans to manufacture e-rickshaws and e-bikes in FY25

In FY25, Tube Investments of India Ltd (TII), through its subsidiaries, plans to introduce electric cargo and e-rickshaw variations as well as e-bikes, after successfully introducing its Montra electric three-wheeler passenger auto.

“We at TII believe that the EV market has enormous growth potential. This industry is positioned for exponential expansion across all categories with favourable government regulations and the installation of charging infrastructure,” according to the managing director, Mukesh Ahuja.

TI Clean Mobility Pvt. Ltd. (TICMPL), a subsidiary of TII, has four electric mobility divisions including small commercial vehicles, tractors, medium and heavy commercial vehicles and three-wheelers. It has recently completed funding the ₹3,000 crore it had intended from TII and other investors to support its numerous electric car initiatives.

"The e-HCV trucks are in the early stages of their sales cycle, while the e3w is performing well in southern markets and is currently entering the northern market," stated Executive Chairman M.A.M. Arunachalam.

The company will launch its E-tractors in three variants which are currently going through extensive testing to determine their endurance, battery economy, and performance. The inbuilt platforms are all designed with agriculture and haulage requirements in mind. It will be a strong alternative to traditional tractors and compete with them in every manner. According to the manufacturer, they are inexpensive, emit no pollutants, and operate silently thanks to replaceable, rechargeable batteries.

Its development includes a strong dealer and service network that will be available in four states at launch including Gujarat, Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu. Moreover, an advanced facility is being built in Chennai to accommodate the demand that arises from post-launch promotional activities.

To produce eSCVs in the range of 2T to 3.5T, a new manufacturing plant is being built at Gummidipundi, near Chennai. Reportedly, the USP of the upcoming vehicle is its range and utility. However, as of right now, the vehicle is still in its initial version of being tested. After arduous testing, the prototypes will be released onto the market in Q2 of FY25, at which point additional versions will be developed.
