December 2025 EV 2 wheeler Sales Report - TVS Leads, Ola Grows, and Chetak Slips
The Indian electric two-wheeler market closed 2025 with a "December Effect" correction, as total volumes dipped due to year-end purchase deferrals. However, the data reveals distinct narratives for every major player: while TVS maintained its dominance despite a drop, Ola Electric surprised the industry as the only brand to post positive growth.
Here is the brand-by-brand breakdown of the December 2025 sales performance.

1. TVS Motor Company : The Unshakable Leader
Despite a 17.4% Month-on-Month decline, TVS remains the undisputed leader of the electric 2W market. Selling 25,039 units, the iQube manufacturer maintained a massive lead of over 6,000 units ahead of its nearest rival. The dip is largely attributed to the seasonal tendency of family buyers waiting for the new calendar year for registration, rather than a loss of market interest. TVS enters 2026 with the strongest momentum in the segment.
2. Bajaj Chetak: The Steepest Drop
The biggest surprise in the top tier came from Bajaj. The Chetak lineup saw a significant 26.4% drop, falling from 25,527 units in November to 18,790 units in December. This sharp correction might indicate inventory adjustments at the dealership level or fierce competition from Ather biting into its share. Bajaj will need a strong recovery in January to ensure the gap with Ather doesn't shrink further.
3. Ather Energy: Closing the Gap
Ather Energy demonstrated relative resilience. While it also faced a 16.1% decline, selling 17,052 units, it managed to narrow the gap with the #2 player, Bajaj Chetak. With only roughly 1,700 units separating the two in December, the "Battle for Silver" is set to heat up in Q1 2026. Ather’s consistent performance suggests its community-driven model remains robust even in lean months.

4. Hero Vida: Holding the Fort
Hero MotoCorp’s EV arm, Vida, reported the smallest decline among the losing brands (excluding Ola's growth). With a 12.3% dip, sales moved from 12,199 to 10,701 units. Staying above the critical 10k mark is a psychological win for the brand. Vida appears to be stabilizing its market share, successfully carving out a niche between the premium Ather/Chetak segment and the mass-market challengers.
5. Ola Electric : The Outlier
The headline story belongs to Ola Electric. In a sea of red numbers, Ola posted a 7.4% increase, growing from 8,400 to 9,020 units. This counter-cyclical growth is significant. It suggests that Ola's aggressive pricing strategies or year-end marketing campaigns successfully converted buyers who would have otherwise waited for January. While they remain at #5, this growth trajectory gives them a morale boost heading into the new year.
6. Ampere : Struggling for Momentum
Greaves Electric Mobility’s Ampere continues to face headwinds. Sales slipped below the 5k mark to 4,753 units, registering a 17.5% decline. As the competition intensifies with legacy giants (TVS, Bajaj, Hero) fully flexing their distribution muscles, Ampere faces the challenge of reclaiming its space in the budget EV segment.
In summary, the December 2025 electric scooter sales report highlights a market in seasonal transition, with TVS Motor Company retaining its dominance (25,039 units) despite a broader industry slump. While major players like Bajaj Chetak and Ather Energy faced double-digit declines due to year-end purchase deferrals, Ola Electric defied the trend as the only top brand to register positive growth (+7.4%). As the focus shifts to 2026, the data underscores a tightening race for the #2 spot and proves that strategic pricing can still drive volumes even in a slow month for India's EV market
