Delhi government Announces 1,000 Charging Stations And 100 Battery Swapping Stations

The Delhi Government announced, that they will be partnering up with discoms and civic bodies to make a coordinated strategy to ramp up the infrastructure for electric vehicle charging to accommodate more EVs in the state.

Delhi government Announces 1,000 Charging Stations And 100 Battery Swapping Stations

The Delhi Government, on 28th July announced that the state plans to set up 1000 charging stations and 103 battery swapping stations in the next few weeks. The first set of charging stations is expected to be inaugurated in the next month. 


The new battery swapping stations are required heavily in the current situation of electric two-wheelers, it becomes really easy for a rider to commute easily without having to stop to charge their EV every time the range drops down near the single digits. These battery swapping stations will ease the minds of those who have range anxiety when riding their electric two-wheelers.


As per the e-vahaan portal, there are a total of 1,32,302 electric vehicles registered in Delhi for which 234 battery swapping stations and 2,356 EV charging stations is very less (1 charging station for nearly 56 EVs), the decision taken by the Delhi government is a step towards electrification of transport in Delhi.


The Delhi Government announced, that they will be partnering up with discoms and civic bodies to make a coordinated strategy to ramp up the infrastructure for electric vehicle charging to accommodate more EVs in the state.


The decision was taken at the fifth meeting of the government’s Electric Vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure working group. The charging stations and battery swapping stations will be set up by Delhi Transco Limited (DTL).


The working group was chaired by the vice-chairperson, of the Dialogue and Development Commission of Delhi (DDC), where Jasmine Shah plays an important role in guiding the strategy for rolling out public and private EV charging stations in the State.


Different agencies had given their inputs which were discussed and planned for the same, is set to be launched in the fourth Delhi EV forum on August 10 which will mark the 2-year anniversary of the EV policy in Delhi.


There are currently 2,356 EV charging stations and 234 battery swapping stations operational at 1,892 locations in Delhi. Setting up a cost-effective, and efficient network of EV battery swapping stations and charging stations requires a large number of stakeholder departments in full coordination.
