Yamaha Rolls Out First "Made in India" Electric Scooter EC-06 from River Mobility’s Karnataka Plant

In a landmark moment for India's electric vehicle (EV) sector, Yamaha Motor India has officially rolled out its first electric scooter, the EC-06, from the River Mobility manufacturing facility in Hoskote, Bengaluru Rural.

The rollout marks a significant milestone in the strategic partnership between the Japanese auto giant and the Bengaluru-based EV startup, blending global engineering standards with Indian manufacturing prowess.

Historic Rollout Inaugurated by Karnataka Minister

The first unit of the Yamaha EC-06 was unveiled by Shri M.B. Patil, the Honorable Minister for Large & Medium Industries, Karnataka. The event highlighted Karnataka's growing dominance as a global hub for Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs).

Taking to social media, Minister Patil termed the event a "proud moment" for the state's industrial sector.

"This milestone blends Japanese engineering excellence with Indian manufacturing pride, powering Karnataka as the go to hub for global OEMs," the Minister stated, emphasizing the state's commitment to the #CleanMobility drive.

Yamaha EC-06: Key Features & Specifications

The Yamaha EC-06 is built on the robust platform of the River Indie (often called the "SUV of scooters") but carries Yamaha’s distinct sporty DNA. While official pricing is expected to be in the range of ₹1.50 Lakh to ₹1.60 Lakh, the scooter boasts premium specifications aimed at the urban commuter:

  • Range & Battery: Equipped with a 4 kWh battery pack, the EC-06 offers a claimed IDC range of approximately 160 km on a single charge.

  • Performance: A powerful 6.7 kW motor propels the scooter to a top speed of 90 kmph, making it highway capable.

  • Design: Unlike the utilitarian look of the River Indie, the EC-06 features a sharper, "maxi scooter" aesthetic with twin LED headlights, a sleek tail section, and 14 inch alloy wheels for superior stability.

  • Tech: It includes a fully digital LCD console, Bluetooth connectivity, and a 24.5 litre under seat storage capacity.

A Strategic Indo-Japanese Collaboration

This launch is the fruit of Yamaha’s $40 million investment in River Mobility’s Series B funding round. Under this unique collaboration:

  1. Yamaha provided the design, engineering, and quality assurance standards.

  2. River Mobility handled the manufacturing at its state of the art facility in Hoskote.

This model allows Yamaha to fast track its EV ambitions in India without setting up a greenfield facility immediately, while River Mobility validates its manufacturing capabilities on a global stage.

Impact on the Indian EV Market

The arrival of the EC-06 signals a heating up of competition in the premium electric scooter segment, currently dominated by players like Ola Electric, Ather Energy, and TVS. With Yamaha’s legacy of performance and River’s rugged engineering, the EC-06 is poised to be a strong contender for buyers looking for reliability and style.

The scooter is expected to hit showrooms for customer deliveries by late January or early February 2026.
