Tata Harrier EV design leaked: All you need to know

Tata Motors

has long been preparing for its new entry into the competition of the Indian electric vehicle (EV) market, which kicked out with the renaming of Tata.ev, the company's EV vertical. The redesigned Nexon EV was the first vehicle to be released under the new name in September of last year.

With the debut of the Punch EV last week, the automaker carried on the trend. A few more EV launches are planned for 2024. These include the all-electric Harrier and the production model of the battery-powered Currv. Both electric SUV concept prototypes were on display at the Auto Expo the previous year.

Online leaks have revealed the forthcoming Harrier EV's patent photos. It appears that Tata Motors has submitted a design patent application for the electric SUV in the Indian market. A number of the stylistic cues from the all-electric Harrier are seen in the most recent patent picture, particularly in the SUV's back section.

The mid-size SUV's edgier stance is accentuated by thick all-black claddings on the wheel arches and door sills, a strong shoulder line and a receding roofline with roof rails, all of which are similar to those of its ICE-powered sister. In addition, the diamond-cut alloy wheels with a slightly different star pattern on the battery-powered Harrier are distinct from the spoke alloy wheels seen on the diesel-powered Harrier.

A gloss black strip across the width of the tailboard, a shark fin antenna, wraparound LED taillights, a hefty rear bumper with a fake skid plate, vertical LED reflectors, a roof-mounted spoiler with an integrated brake lamp and a panoramic sunroof are some more eye-catching features. The updated front fascia of the prototype, which was previously unveiled, will match the facelifted diesel Harrier that was introduced a few months ago.

Tata's Gen II EV architecture, an improvement over the Gen I platform supporting the Nexon EV, serves as the foundation for the future Harrier EV. With many battery choices ranging from 60 to 80 kWh, the electric SUV should be able to travel 400–500 km between charges. Although the motor specs are currently unclear, we anticipate Tata will provide an all-wheel-drive system with two motors for the next Harrier EV.
