Enjoy “Smartphone on wheels” with Level 3 autonomous driving feature: Sony & Honda plans Afeela EV
Earlier this year, Sony and Honda jointly debuted their eagerly awaited Afeela
EV
in their consumer electronics show. In newer information, the car is described as being more than just a mode of transportation and as being like a smartphone on wheels. However, for this large-scale undertaking to become true, it will depend on technologies made available via the Digital Chassis platform from Qualcomm, as was reported. The Level 3 Self-Driving Smart EV Capabilities
In addition to a number of cutting-edge technologies, the Afeela EV is expected to arrive in 2025. These include about 45 sensors, lidar technology, eight cameras, and integrated artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities. These elements are necessary to achieve Level 3 self-driving capabilities, where the automobile drives itself but the driver is always ready to take over.
Qualcomm's Contribution Is Critical
Qualcomm has made great progress in the automotive sector by developing processor chips for Android handsets. The Digital Chassis platform will be the foundation for all future technology developments at Afeela. The platform can deliver over-the-air updates and real-time alerts by gathering data from multiple sensors and providing seamless communication through 5G and Wi-Fi, all while learning and adjusting to the driver's preferences using real-time data.
Afeela EV: A Scientific Wonder
The Unreal Engine, a company that has been making a lot of noise for its photorealistic visuals, will power the screen graphics on the Afeela EV. The creation of the car will be built on Honda's yet-to-be-released architecture platform and Sony's experience in digital technology. The user experience will also be enhanced with media from Sony's video game, music, and movie divisions.
Cost and accessibility
Despite the lack of detailed pricing information, industry experts believe the Afeela EV will be a niche, low-volume product. The estimated MSRP is anticipated to be more than $100,000 due to its amazing technological features. One of Honda's plants in Ohio will start producing in 2025, and 2026 will see the start of deliveries. In all likelihood, it hasn't shown any signs to get a debut in India.
