December sales data out: Here are top selling EVs and companies of 2025
VinFast, in December, has emerged as India’s fourth-largest electric vehicle manufacturer, overtaking Hyundai and Kia.
Best Electric Vehicle Company of December
The sales data made Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles the top-selling EV company by marking sales of 5231 units, as per the VAHAN portal data on Dec. 29, 2025. As of now, the company offers six electric vehicle models. Tata Motors registered 68,558 EVs for the year 2025, a 12% increase over the previous year.
Best Electric Vehicle of 2025
Second on the list is the JSW MG Motor India, with 3,054 registrations. The company offers three electric vehicles.
With the Windsor EV becoming the best-selling electric vehicle of 2025, JSW MG Motor India has doubled its EV volume. The company recorded sales of 21,802 units in 2024 and increased this to 50,853 units in 2025. From 7,135 in 2024 to 33,008 units in 2025, M&M's EV sales more than doubled.
Top-Selling EV companies
On the third, Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) recorded sales of 2,600 EVs in December. M&M offers XEV 9e, XEV 9S, BE 6 and BE 6 Formula E Edition Electric in its fleet.
Unexpectedly, Vinfast recorded 321 registrations, securing fourth place in the list.
In 2025, VinFast introduced the VF6 and VF7, the company’s two electric sport utility vehicles (SUVs), in the Indian market. Down in the line, the company inaugurated its factory in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu, to localise its assembly units of its EVs. Within four months of its introduction, the automaker has opened 35 showrooms nationwide as part of its expansion.
Next in place is Hyundai Motor India with its Creta EV, who sercured a registration of 238 units. Meanwhile, Kia, having Carens Clavis EV in its fleet, registered 272 units.
Luxury segment of EVs: Tesla, BYD, BMW performance
Tesla’s entry has also impacted EV sales in India’s premium and luxury segments. According to VAHAN data, Tesla registered 62 electric vehicles in December.
Chinese automaker BYD recorded 212 EV registrations during the month, down from 300 a year earlier.
Meanwhile, Mercedes-Benz India saw EV registrations fall to 53 units in December, nearly half of the 103 units sold in the same period last year. Whereas BMW recorded a strong growth while doubling its EV registrations to 300 units during the month.
