Yamaha Motor steps into EV market, launches AEROX-E and EC-06

India Yamaha Motor (IYM) has officially entered the electric two-wheeler market with the launch of its battery-powered scooters — AEROX-E and EC-06 — on Tuesday. The announcement aligns with the company’s plan to introduce 10 new internal combustion engine (ICE) and electric vehicle (EV) models in India by the end of 2026. The new lineup will be jointly developed by Yamaha’s Indian and global R&D teams. According to a Business Standard report, Yamaha will prioritise performance, technology, and design in its upcoming products and will also unveil more than 20 model updates.

Yamaha’s first EV is expected to be available in showrooms by the first quarter of FY26, following the completion of network readiness, Business Standard added.

Built on Yamaha’s “Maxi Sports” platform, the AEROX-E claims a certified range of 106 km, powered by a 9.4 kW motor and two detachable 3 kWh batteries.

Meanwhile, the EC-06 features an inter-urban mobility design, a fixed 4 kWh battery, and a claimed range of up to 160 km per charge. Both models come equipped with advanced safety systems, smart connectivity features, and multiple riding modes.

In addition to the new EVs, Yamaha also unveiled two internal combustion models — the XSR155 and FZ-Rave — aimed at strengthening its presence in the 150cc and premium motorcycle segments.

According to SIAM data, Yamaha’s total sales declined by 12.5%, from 5,46,015 units in 2024 to 4,77,890 units in 2025 (through September).

Citing Itaru Otani, Chairman of Yamaha Motor India Group, Business Standard reported, “India is central to Yamaha’s global growth strategy — a market where we see immense potential across both premium and electric mobility segments. With these launches, we are deepening our connection with riders who seek performance, design, and technology, while also responding to the nation’s transition towards sustainable transportation.”

There are currently more than 550 Blue Square dealerships in India, where all Yamaha EVs will be sold. According to Singh, these outlets reflect Yamaha’s racing-inspired brand identity and will be upgraded to include EV servicing infrastructure.

Singh further added that Yamaha currently has no partnerships with charging infrastructure providers but is exploring potential collaborations for future expansion.

For initial customers, the company will offer both home and portable charging solutions.

The AEROX-E and EC-06 are expected to be launched in phases, starting with major EV-ready cities.
