Yamaha Aerox E Hits Indian Roads: A Premium Electric Shift for the Maxi-Scooter
Yamaha has officially expanded its electric footprint in India with the launch of the much-anticipated Aerox E. Priced at Rs 2.82 lakh (ex-showroom), this flagship maxi-scooter is the electric evolution of the popular petrol-powered Aerox 155.
With this launch, Yamaha is targeting the premium tier of the Indian electric two-wheeler market, prioritizing sporty performance, exclusive styling, and urban convenience over mass-market affordability.
Preserving the Aerox DNA
Yamaha has smartly retained the aggressive styling that made the internal combustion Aerox a fan favorite. The Aerox E features the same muscular proportions, central spine (non-step-through) design, and striking twin LED headlamps.
While the scooter shares familiar body panels and rider geometry, the electric powertrain adds some heft. The Aerox E tips the scales at 139 kg, making it roughly 13 kg heavier than its petrol counterpart. To handle this, Yamaha has recalibrated the suspension—telescopic front forks and twin rear shock absorbers—to maintain the agile, corner-carving dynamics buyers expect from the Aerox badge.
Performance and Power
Built for spirited city riding, the Aerox E is powered by a centrally mounted electric motor that delivers punchy acceleration. Riders can switch between three standard modes—Eco, Standard, and Power—to balance battery life and performance. For quick overtakes, Yamaha has included a dedicated Boost Mode that unlocks maximum performance in short bursts.
| Feature | Specification |
| Battery Setup | 3 kWh total capacity (Twin 1.5 kWh removable battery packs) |
| Electric Motor | ~9.4 kW / 13 bhp peak power (48 Nm torque) |
| Claimed Range | 117 km (IDC certified) on a full charge |
| Top Speed | 95.5 kmph |
Removable Battery Convenience
One of the most practical upgrades is the battery architecture. Instead of a single heavy unit, the Aerox E utilizes a 3 kWh battery system split into two 1.5 kWh removable packs.
Housed neatly under the seat, these battery packs feature integrated carrying handles and individual digital displays to check the charge level. This modular setup is a massive win for apartment dwellers, allowing riders to easily remove the batteries and charge them indoors using a standard wall socket.
Tech Upgrades for the EV Era
The cockpit of the Aerox E receives a significant modernization to justify its premium price point. Key features include:
-
TFT Instrument Cluster: A full-color digital display replaces the standard dials.
-
Smartphone Connectivity: Through the Y-Connect app, riders get turn-by-turn navigation, weather updates, and call/SMS notifications directly on the dash.
-
Reverse Mode: A dedicated gear to help riders easily back the 139 kg scooter out of tight parking spots.
-
Smart Key: Seamless keyless ignition and lock functions.
Availability and Phased Rollout
Given its position as Yamaha's most expensive two-wheeler in the country, the company is taking a measured approach to its retail strategy. The Aerox E is currently available in select major metropolitan areas, including Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Bengaluru, and Chennai.
