VinFast Targets Mainstream Indian Buyers with Locally Assembled VF 6 and VF 7 EVs
Vietnamese automaker VinFast is making a significant push into the Indian market, positioning its new electric SUVs, the VF 6 and VF 7, as practical and affordable options for everyday consumers, not just early adopters. Now being assembled at the company's facility in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu, the models are launching with aggressive pricing and substantial ownership incentives.
With the Indian EV landscape steadily maturing, VinFast's strategy hinges on addressing key buyer concerns : range, long-term battery health, and charging access.
Two Models for Two Needs
The new lineup is designed to cater to distinct driving patterns.
-
The VinFast VF 6 is a compact urban e-SUV aimed at city commuters. It features a 59.6 kWh battery, delivering an ARAI-rated range of up to 468 km. With a starting price of ₹16.49 lakh, it is positioned as an ideal vehicle for daily driving in crowded urban environments.
-
The VinFast VF 7 is a larger, more spacious option for families and those who frequently travel long distances. It offers an ARAI-certified range of up to 532 km with its 70.8 kWh battery. The VF 7 starts at ₹20.89 lakh and includes premium options like a panoramic glass roof and a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive "Sky" variant.
Addressing India's Climate and Cost Concerns
A key feature of both models is the use of Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) batteries. VinFast highlights this chemistry's reputation for thermal stability and a long lifespan, making it particularly well-suited for India's high-heat conditions. The company is backing this claim with a robust 10-year or 200,000 km warranty on the battery.
To make the transition to electric more appealing, VinFast is launching with a powerful ownership package. This includes:
-
Free Public Charging : Owners will receive free charging at all V-Green-operated public stations until July 2028.
-
Complimentary Maintenance : The first three years of vehicle maintenance will be provided at no cost.
These incentives, combined with the lower running costs of home charging and reduced mechanical servicing, are central to VinFast's message of a lower total cost of ownership compared to traditional petrol or diesel SUVs.
Building a Support Ecosystem
Understanding that service access is critical for buyer confidence, VinFast has already established 24 operational dealerships and showrooms across major cities, including Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, and Hyderabad.
The company plans to expand this network to 35 showrooms and 120 extended service workshops by the end of 2025. This infrastructure is supported by strategic partnerships with RoadGrid, myTVS, Castrol India, and Global Assure to ensure reliable roadside support and service.
Both the VF 6 and VF 7 also come equipped with modern safety and driver assistance features. Higher trims offer adaptive cruise control, blind spot warning, lane keeping assist, and a surround-view camera, further solidifying their position as practical, safe, and cost-effective contenders in India's growing EV market.
