UP reopens EV subsidy portal: Here is how you can apply
People who want to buy electric vehicles in Uttar Pradesh can now enjoy government subsidies, as the state transport department has reopened its portal. The new subsidy scheme is expected to benefit over 50,000 people, according to the latest reports.
For the subsidy, car owners must visit the Uttar Pradesh Electric Vehicle Purchase Subsidy Portal (upevsubsidy.in) to apply online for state benefits. However, it is to be noted that one user can apply for a subsidy on only one vehicle.
As per the guidelines, aggregators or fleet operators can enjoy the purchase subsidy on a maximum of ten 2-wheeler or 4-wheeler EVs and five e-goods carriers or 5 e-buses.
What documents will you need to apply?
Assistant Transport Commissioner Naresh Kumar encouraged EV purchasers to seek subsidies while purchasing an EV. They will need their Aadhaar card, photograph, and bank account to apply for the subsidy. However, it is to be noted that the application must be submitted only by the dealer.
Only e-rickshaws will not receive a subsidy. The reason for this is that subsidies are being offered to encourage EVs, yet e-rickshaws have sold in such large numbers with no advertising that they have become a mobility problem.
Users can enjoy a subsidy of up to Rs 5000 on two-wheelers, Rs 1 Lakh on four-wheelers and Rs 20 Lakh on E-buses. Moreover, in the case of E-goods carriers users can have a subsidy up to Rs 1 lakh.
Meanwhile, between April and July 2024, as many as 7748 Evs were sold. From April 2023 to March 2024, 82093 EVs were sold.
