Still time to get EV subsidy? Ola, TVS, and others get EMPS certificates as Navratri approaches
Ola Electric, TVS Motor, Bajaj Auto, Hero MotoCorp, and Ather Energy have successfully obtained manual certifications from the Ministry of Heavy Industries (MHI) to be eligible for subsidies under the Electric Mobility Promotion Scheme (EMPS) 2024, just in time for Navratri and the next high-sale season.
While the online gateway for completing the application procedure for EMPS subsidies is not yet available, enterprises are nevertheless receiving a "go ahead" certificate in manual format from the Ministry of Heavy Industries (MHI).
"These enterprises applied for certificates during the final week of March, and the MHI began manually issuing the certificates on April 2 in the evening. Although the online site is not yet complete, it is anticipated to be live within the next ten days, at which point these paper forms will also be posted there,” citing a person with direct knowledge of the situation Businessline reported.
“Businesses and automobiles produced as of April 3 are relieved since they will qualify for the program's incentives,” the source stated.
To get advantages under the EMPS 2024 plan, the source said, Mahindra Last Mile Mobility and Piaggio Vehicles must also have obtained the certifications to market their electric three-wheelers (e3Ws).
A maximum ₹10,000 subsidy per electric two-wheeler (e2W) and ₹25,000 for e3W is available under the EMPS 2024.
Additionally, the programme grants heavy e3Ws (autos and commercial units) up to ₹50,000. In a March 13 Gazette notice, the government informed the EMPS of a ₹500 crore expenditure, allowing the Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of (Hybrid &) Electric Vehicles in India (FAME) project to continue till July in a different capacity.
