Reliance Infra hires ex-BYD executive to perform “cost feasibility” study
Anils Ambani’s Reliance group part, Reliance Infrastructure has hired a former India executive of BYD Co, a Chinese EV giant, to advise the company on manufacturing electric cars and batteries, citing two sources, Reuters reported.
According to the report, the company has hired an external consultant to perform a "cost feasibility" study for establishing an EV plant, initially to manufacture around 250,000 vehicles a year and then 750,000 after some years.
It is also considering the viability of developing a battery factory with a capacity of 10 gigawatt hours (GWh) and scaling up to 75 GWh over the next decade, the report added.
Reliance Infrastructure did not react to a request for comment on its intentions, which are being disclosed for the first time. The company's shares, which had fallen 0.2% before the Reuter’s report, finished over 2% higher after it was published.
Former BYD executive Sanjay Gopalakrishnan, who has joined as a consultant to assist on the EV project, has also not commented on the event.
