Porsche launches all-electric Taycan: All you need to know
Porsche has finally made its debut in the Indian EV industry by launching its all-electric Taycan, which will be available at prices starting from Rs 1.50 cr (ex-showroom). The vehicle will be available in two body designs: the Taycan sedan and the Taycan Cross Turismo estate. The Tycan Sedan will be available in standard, 4S, Turbo, and Turbo S variants, while the Taycan Cross Turismo estate will only be available in 4S, Turbo, and Turbo S.
Porsche's first all-electric vehicle, the Taycan, is based on the same platform as sister manufacturer Audi's newly introduced e-tron GT in the nation. Similar to the brand's Panamera, the Taycan is a four-door coupe with a design that follows the 2015 Mission E concept. A full-width lightbar at the back and headlamps with four LED DRL elements are two examples of the Taycan's recognisable Porsche design traits. In contrast, the estate model of the EV, the Cross Turismo, has an additional 30mm of ground clearance for moderate off-road adaptability. Its rough appearance is further enhanced by its modest body covering.
The technology-driven cabin of the EV can feature up to four screens at the front. Additionally, the Taycan uses touch-sensitive screens rather than actual buttons, which gives the centre console a neat and simple appearance. Because the floor-mounted battery pack is located beneath the front seats, the Taycan has deep footwells for passengers in the backseat despite being shorter than the Panamera. As a result, the rear room can be greatly increased. The Turbo S can accommodate 400 litres of luggage in the boot and 82 litres in the front trunk, or "frunk."
The Taycan's equipment includes an 8.4-inch screen for climate control below, an adjustable 16.8-inch digital instrument panel that can be adjusted, and an infotainment screen that is 10.9 inches. It is also possible to add a fourth, 10.9-inch touchscreen for the front passenger is also possible.
Additional features include infotainment and wireless software upgrades that can improve battery and charging performance. The Taycan Turbo comes standard with 20-inch alloy wheels, adaptive air suspension that lowers the vehicle by 22 mm, Apple CarPlay, a Bose sound system, matrix LED headlights, and dual-zone temperature control. Moreover, the Turbo S adds upgraded brakes, 18-way electrically adjustable seats, and 21-inch wheels.
With electric motors fitted to each axle, all-wheel drive is standard on all Taycan variants except the entry-level model, which only has rear-wheel drive (RWD). While the Taycan 4S, with its dual-motor system, produces up to 530 horsepower when over-boost is engaged, the RWD Taycan only produces 408 horsepower. The 4S is said to sprint from 0 to 100 kph in 4.0 seconds. The Cross Turismo 4S has a peak speed of 240 kph and produces 571 horsepower when overboots.
In contrast, the Turbo produces up to 680 horsepower in both body styles and is said to reach 100 kph in 3.2 seconds for the sedan and 3.3 seconds for the estate. The most potent EV available in the nation is the top-tier Turbo S, which can generate up to 761 horsepower and 1050 Nm. It is said to run from 0 to 100 kph in under 2.8 seconds on the Sedan and 2.9 seconds on the CrossTurismo.
