Ola plans to launch helmet detection tech for e-bikes and scooters
Even though India now has the largest
two-wheeler
market, our nation is not well-known for being in the forefront of rider safety. Our highways frequently see riders without helmets, therefore Ola Electric is developing a helmet detecting system for its electric two-wheelers in an effort to address this. The all-new helmet detection system for Ola uses a camera to assess whether or not the rider is wearing a helmet. After communicating this information to the Vehicle Control Unit (VCU), which is comparable to an ECU in an ICE automobile, the Motor Control Unit then determines whether or not the vehicle will change into Ride mode.
When the user is not wearing a helmet and the vehicle is in Ride mode, the EV will automatically convert to Park mode. A warning to wear a helmet will be shown on the dash once the car is in park mode. The VCU won't let the electric scooter or bike go into riding mode and won't stop watching the rider until it can determine if the user is wearing a helmet.
While TVS recently revealed that it was developing a camera-based helmet reminder system, Ola's technology goes a step further by preventing the vehicle from operating if the user is not wearing a helmet. In the instance of TVS, the rider just sees a warning message, and the car hasn't been mentioned as being locked in Park mode.
