Mahindra & Mahindra to establish 1,000 ultra-fast charging stations
Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) is planning to establish 1,000 ultra-fast charging stations by the end of 2027. The company has announced plans to establish the stations on highways under its broader initiative to set up an electric-mobility ecosystem.
All of the chargers will be 180 kW or more, creating a high-power EV corridor that will facilitate seamless intercity electric travel.
Currently, the company operates two active stations, each with four rapid chargers. Further, M&M will establish the remaining charging stations throughout the 250 high-traffic corridors, from where 90 per cent of India’s long-distance road transit happens.
For unified discovery and payments, the network will be brand-neutral, accessible to all EV users, and linked with Google Maps, aggregator platforms, and M&M's own app.
The charging rollout is essential to the company's long-term EV plan, according to Nalinikanth Gollagunta, executive director of Mahindra Electric Automobile and CEO of M&M's automotive sector.
Citing Gollagunta, Business Standard reported, “the future of electric mobility depends on making long-distance travel as effortless as city driving. That starts with a reliable, fast-charging backbone on India’s highways. Along with our expanding range of long-range electric sport utility vehicles, we are ensuring customers can confidently choose electric for every journey”.
All New XEV 9S
The update followed the M&M’s recent launch of the seven-seater XEV 9S, which is engineered on the INGLO platform. (read the report here)
Following the launch, Mahndira now has four electric SUVs, including XUV400, XEV 9e, BE 6, and XEV 9S. Among these, only the XUV400 is not built on the INGLO platform.
The born-electric vehicles of the M&M are manufactured at the company’s Chakan plant.
With the help of in-house teams and insights from its more established electric three-wheeler business, the company is developing a roadmap for battery recycling and end-of-life solutions.
M&M Performance So Far
In the last seven months, M&M has sold more than 30,000 BE 6 and XEV 9-series EVs, bringing in almost ₹8,000 crore.
By 2027–2028, the business expects that EVs will make up 25% of its sales, supported by increased production.
M&M's EV sales increased by 181% in March and continued to expand at a fast rate for the rest of the year, with notable jumps of 523% in June, 942% in August, and 583% in September on a low base. Mahindra's greatest month was October, when sales more than tripled to 3,911 units.
