Mahindra’s Charge_iN and HPCL Partner to Expand India’s Ultra-Fast EV Charging Network
In a major boost to India’s electric vehicle (EV) ecosystem, Charge_iN by Mahindra has signed a strategic agreement with Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL). This partnership aims to leverage HPCL’s vast nationwide network of retail outlets to deploy high speed electric vehicle charging infrastructure.
The collaboration aligns with the government’s vision of strengthening public EV charging and supports Mahindra’s "UNLIMIT" initiative to accelerate the transition to sustainable mobility.
Ultra-Fast 180kW Charging for Electric Four-Wheelers
One of the standout features of this agreement is the technical specification of the infrastructure. The new charging stations will exclusively feature 180kW dual gun chargers. These ultra fast chargers are specifically designed to provide a quicker, more reliable, and convenient charging experience for electric four wheeler owners, significantly reducing wait times during long distance travel.
Leveraging HPCL’s Massive Footprint
HPCL is already a dominant player in the energy sector, operating over 24,400 retail outlets across India. Under its HP e-Charge brand, the company has already established more than 5,400 EV charging stations.
By integrating Mahindra’s Charge_iN infrastructure into this existing network, the partnership ensures a seamless expansion that covers both major urban centers and key highway corridors.
Driving EV Adoption in India
This move is expected to address "range anxiety," one of the primary hurdles for potential EV buyers in India. By providing high capacity chargers at trusted fuel stations, the Mahindra HPCL partnership makes owning an electric car more practical for the average consumer.
"The cooperation with HPCL represents the next step in our collective efforts to build a comprehensive EV ecosystem," the official statement noted. As the world’s third largest automotive market, India's push toward green transportation relies heavily on such large scale infrastructure collaborations.
What This Means for Mahindra EV Owners
While these chargers will support a wide range of electric four wheelers, the integration of Charge_iN infrastructure suggests a highly optimized experience for Mahindra’s growing lineup of electric SUVs, such as the XUV400 and upcoming "Born Electric" (BE) models.
