Jaguar postpones launch of its first-ever four-door electric GT: Result of cyberattack?
Luxury automaker Jaguar has postponed the global debut of its first-ever four-door electric GT from 2025 to 2026, following the initial unveiling of the Type 00 concept in December 2024. According to a recent report by ABC News, the company might have decided to delay the launch after the Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) group was hit by a major cyberattack in August 2025.
As per a CMC study, the cyberattack was severe enough to cost the UK around £1.9 billion (roughly ₹22,000 crore).
As a result of the cyberattack, JLR was forced to halt production at its plants in Wolverhampton, Halewood, and Solihull. In addition to a company-wide IT outage, JLR's inability to process new orders also affected suppliers and dealerships. Given the severity of the incident, Jaguar might have been compelled to postpone the release of its new four-door electric GT.
Despite being impacted by the cyberattack as well, Land Rover was already in a stronger position than Jaguar, as there are many buyers in India and overseas for its SUV-only lineup. However, Jaguar urgently needs a fresh strategy to attract paying customers, as it currently has no active models in its global portfolio.
Even though demand for high-end electric vehicles has been inconsistent in recent years across international markets, the introduction of the new four-door electric GT will mark a new chapter for the company. Nevertheless, wealthy consumers remain intrigued by the general appeal of high-end (or even luxury) EVs. However, Jaguar could have invested in pure-electric cars while offering additional ICE options as a precaution, as per Autocar India.
The Jaguar GT is expected to launch first in North America in 2026, followed by Europe and other global markets.
