Hyundai discontinues Kona EV: Make ways for Creta EV launch
The Kona Electric has been secretly taken down from Hyundai Motor India Limited's website. This action implies that the business is getting ready to introduce Creta EV. Hyundai's first electric car in India, the Kona Electric, was never given a makeover in its lifetime. The company has reported the Kona electric car to have a 452 km range on a single charge. Due to its outdated interior and crossover body style—which is less common than SUVs—the Kona Electric's sales were sluggish. Hyundai has stated that in January 2025, they will introduce their first electric car for the mainstream market. This car, an electric variant of the Creta, would be produced in Hyundai's Tamil Nadu plant, which is close to Chennai.
It is presently not possible to obtain information regarding the Creta EV's specs. It is anticipated to have a stated range of 400–500 kilometres, nevertheless. This range is similar to the 550 km that Maruti Suzuki's future eVX electric SUV is expected to offer. The platforms used by the Creta EV and eVX may differ significantly from one another.
The eVX will ride on a specially designed electric skateboard platform, with plenty of cabin room because the floorboard is made up of the battery pack and the wheels are placed at the corners. It's still unclear if the Creta EV will use an upgraded Creta chassis with an electric drivetrain or a brand-new electric skateboard platform.
The Creta EV's pricing has not yet been made public. It is anticipated to cost between ₹20 lakh and ₹30 lakh, though. Other electric SUVs including the MG ZS EV, Tata Curvv, Maruti Suzuki eVX, BYD Atto 3, and Mahindra XUV400 will compete with the Creta EV.
Hyundai made the right decision by releasing the Creta EV first, as the Creta ICE variant is among the most well-liked SUVs in India and has been selling rather well. Hyundai is gearing up for this momentous launch, which is a turning point in their efforts to increase the number of electric vehicles they provide in India. Hyundai's standing in the Indian electric car industry may change as a result of the launch of the Creta EV.
