Honda showcases Super EV concept at Goodwood Festival of Speed
Marking its first appearance, Honda has taken off the curtains from its new Super EV concept car at the recent Goodwood Festival of Speed (FOS). The car was revealed to be an A-segment hatchback which will compete against cars like the Fiat 500e, Renault Twingo and Hyundai Inster.
During the event, the company showcased the EV hill climbing a distance of 1.856 km, whose snippet is available on the YouTube page of Goodwood Road & Racing.
Despite the purple camouflage that was used to introduce the car, numerous design details were showcased during the event. One such detail is the retro-styled front fascia with its round headlights and round rings of daytime-running lights.
Meanwhile, like the Honda e:N1, the car's charging port appears to be located at the front. The concept features a roof spoiler and square taillights on the back. However, the carmaker has not yet revealed anything about the interior.
Although the performance specifications are also unknown, it can be concluded from the video that the Super EV concept performs with agility and sharpness. This is because, despite being boxy, the car handles the corners with little to no body roll, as demonstrated in the video.
As per the company, earlier to the EV’s debut at the FOS, the Super EV concept has been tested on UK roads. Additionally, it is scheduled for manufacturing; however, the launch dates have not yet been disclosed.
In addition, Honda also showcased the Honda 0 SUV prototype, Prelude prototype, CR-V e:PHEV, updated HR-V, and Civic Type R in addition to the Super EV concept.
In the upcoming years, the Japanese automaker plans to introduce seven new electric vehicles, which will feature cutting-edge battery systems, novel motor technologies, and revolutionary new platform technology. Beyond the constraints of the current e:Ny1 and preceding Honda E vehicles, this signifies a total strategic reset of Honda's electrification approach.
