Government join hands with Shell India, launches program on Green Skills and EV technology
To launch a training program centred on Green Skills and Electric Vehicle (EV) technology, the Directorate General of Training (DGT) within the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) has joined hands with Shell India.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, the project aims to provide young people with future-ready skills in e-mobility and green energy.
The program will be carried out by Shell's training partner, the Edunet Foundation, at National Skill Training Institutes (NSTIs) and Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) in five states: Gujarat, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and the Delhi-NCR region.
Under the new initiative, to offer practical training in line with industry requirements, specialised EV skill laboratories will be set up in a few ITIs and NSTIs.
The program's initial phase consists of a 90-hour job-oriented EV training at 12 ITIs, a 240-hour advanced EV Technician course at four NSTIs, and a fundamental green skills module for other institutions.
The curriculum includes Digital tools, safety procedures, diagnostics, battery technology, and electric vehicle systems. In addition, this public–private partnership also entails structured placement assistance, co-branded certification by Shell and DGT, and the upskilling of more than 250 teachers.
Through initiatives like the Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Electric Vehicles (FAME) project, which promotes EV manufacturing and infrastructure, the central government is encouraging the use of green energy and electric vehicles (EVs).
