Genesis has officially pulled the covers off the highly anticipated GV90. As the brand’s new flagship electric SUV, this massive vehicle represents the pinnacle of Hyundai Motor Group’s engineering and luxury ambitions. Moving far beyond the brand's traditional "value-luxury" reputation, the GV90 targets the highest echelon of the automotive market.

The GV90 transitions the striking 2024 Neolun Concept into a production-ready reality. It arrives with a colossal 123.5kWh battery pack, advanced dual-motor all-wheel drive, and cabin technology that rivals the world’s most expensive vehicles.

According to José Muñoz, President and CEO of Hyundai Motor Company, the new SUV embodies the brand's future vision. He noted that the GV90 stays true to Korean values of hospitality and craftsmanship while pushing the boundaries of automotive technology.

Here is a comprehensive breakdown of everything you need to know about the new Genesis GV90.

Redefining Luxury: Design and Dimensions

At first glance, the production GV90 remains remarkably faithful to the Neolun Concept. The front fascia features the signature Genesis two-line LED daytime running lights, a smooth clamshell bonnet, and an imposing stance. Genesis updated the front bumper with larger, gloss-black air inlets to aid in battery and brake cooling for the production model.

Size is where the GV90 makes its strongest statement. This is a genuine full-size SUV. Measuring nearly 5.3 meters in length, its physical footprint places it in direct competition with ultra-luxury heavyweights like the Rolls-Royce Cullinan and the Bentley Bentayga Extended Wheelbase.

The SUV rides on massive 24-inch alloy wheels that feature a classic, Maybach-inspired design. While the concept car utilized camera-based side mirrors, Genesis opted for traditional outside rearview mirrors (ORVMs) for the final production model to meet global regulatory standards.

The Neolun Executive Suite: Coach Doors and Lounge Cabins

Genesis will offer the GV90 in two primary configurations: a standard seven-seat version and an ultra-luxurious four-seat flagship known as the GV90 Neolun Executive Suite.

The standard seven-seater features frameless door windows and conventional door hinges. However, the Neolun version introduces one of the most dramatic design elements in the modern EV market: coach doors with a hidden B-pillar.

A True B-Pillarless Design

The Neolun gets front- and rear-hinged doors that open in opposite directions. When both doors are open, passengers are greeted by a massive, unobstructed entry aperture. Genesis claims this is the world's first independently opening and closing hidden B-pillar coach-door arrangement on a production SUV.

Removing the central pillar usually compromises vehicle safety and structural rigidity. To counter this, Genesis integrated high-strength dual steel beams directly into the doors themselves. The company also heavily reinforced the surrounding body structure to ensure the cabin remains rigid and secure.

Swivelling Seats and Korean Hospitality

Inside the Neolun version, the focus shifts entirely to passenger comfort. When the vehicle is parked, the motorized front seats can swivel 180 degrees. This creates a face-to-face lounge environment, allowing front and rear passengers to socialize or conduct business easily.

Rear-seat passengers enjoy an elaborate executive environment. The cabin features real wood veneer flooring and semi-aniline leather upholstery. Genesis even incorporated a radiant heating system inspired by traditional Korean ondol underfloor heating, which warms the cabin more efficiently than traditional air vents.

Other high-end additions for the rear include a built-in refrigerator, integrated deployable tables, and a "Comfort Partition." This physical partition sits between the passenger compartment and the luggage area, completely insulating the cabin from road and boot noise.

Groundbreaking Cabin Technology

Genesis designed the GV90’s dashboard to look minimalistic while housing immense computing power. The traditional driver's instrument binnacle is completely gone. Instead, drivers receive crucial information through a massive 25-inch head-up display (HUD) projected directly onto the windshield.

Extendable OLED Displays

The centerpiece of the dashboard is a 23.6-inch OLED Cinematic Display. This screen runs on Hyundai Motor Group’s new Pleos Connect infotainment architecture.

The screen features a unique party trick. When the driver parks the GV90, the entire display motorizes upward by 90mm. This transformation converts it into a larger 24.6-inch entertainment screen, perfect for watching movies while waiting at a fast-charging station.

Intuitive Controls and Audio

Genesis replaced traditional plastic knobs with real glass buttons across the dashboard to elevate the tactile experience. The climate control system uses motorized air vents that hide away when not in use.

For audio, Genesis partnered with Bang & Olufsen to install a Premier 3D audio system. This setup features 25 strategically placed speakers and supports Dolby Atmos for a true surround-sound experience. The cabin also utilizes extensive acoustic glass—with some panes thicker than 5mm—to ensure absolute silence on the highway.

The technology extends to a new generative AI assistant named Gleo AI, which can handle complex voice commands and assist with vehicle functions naturally.

Performance: 123.5kWh Battery and 657 Horsepower

Underneath the luxury, the GV90 serves as the debut vehicle for Hyundai Motor Group’s new eMP electric flagship architecture. This platform is specifically designed to handle the size and weight of full-size, top-tier electric vehicles.

The Largest Battery in the Lineup

The GV90 packs a 123.5kWh battery. This is the largest battery pack ever fitted to a Hyundai, Kia, or Genesis electric vehicle. Based on the manufacturer's internal testing, Genesis estimates this massive battery will provide a driving range of around 500 kilometers (roughly 310 miles) for the heavier seven-seat version.

Charging Speed

Despite the massive battery size, charging times remain impressive. Thanks to the eMP platform's high-voltage architecture, the GV90 supports DC fast charging up to 350kW. Under optimal conditions, drivers can replenish the battery from 10% to 80% in just 22 minutes.

Powertrain and Dynamics

Power comes from a robust dual-motor, all-wheel-drive setup.

  • Front Motor: 240kW (350Nm of torque)
  • Rear Motor: 250kW (450Nm of torque)
  • Combined Output: 490kW (657 horsepower) and 800Nm of total torque.

This makes the GV90 the most powerful EV in the wider Hyundai Motor Group portfolio. To manage this power and the vehicle's substantial weight, engineers equipped each motor with its own electronic limited-slip differential (e-LSD). This system actively distributes power to all four wheels, ensuring maximum grip during high-speed cornering or when navigating snow and rain.

Ride comfort is handled by a sophisticated multi-chamber air suspension system. It actively adjusts ride height based on road conditions, paired with dual-valve adaptive dampers that continuously soften or stiffen the ride. Furthermore, the GV90 includes rear-axle steering. The rear wheels can turn up to five degrees, drastically reducing the turning circle and making the 5.3-meter SUV much easier to park.

World's First Roof Airbag and Safety Innovations

Safety is often where flagship vehicles introduce new industry standards, and the GV90 is no exception. The SUV features a total of 12 airbags, but one specifically stands out as an industry first.

The Panoramic Roof Airbag

Genesis claims the GV90 features the world’s first roof airbag. Many luxury EVs feature expansive panoramic glass roofs, which pose a unique risk during severe rollover accidents. The GV90's roof airbag is designed to deploy rapidly across the entire interior surface of the fixed glass roof during a rollover event.

This system serves two crucial purposes. First, it prevents occupants' heads and limbs from making direct contact with the glass. Second, it significantly reduces the risk of passengers being ejected through the roof if the glass shatters.

Advanced Crash Protection

Alongside the roof airbag, the GV90 includes curtain airbags that extend all the way back to the third row. It also utilizes specially designed seat-cushion airbags. These deploy to prevent "submarining"—a dangerous scenario where an occupant slides underneath their seatbelt during a severe frontal impact. The seat airbags also deploy in two stages, adjusting their force based on the passenger's seating posture.

Because it carries such a large battery, Genesis also implemented enhanced battery protection structures and advanced thermal-runaway mitigation technologies to prevent battery fires following a collision.

Market Launch and Global Availability

Genesis plans to officially launch the GV90 in its home market of South Korea in September 2026. Following the domestic launch, the luxury SUV will make its European debut in the first half of 2027.

Pricing details have not yet been announced. However, given the technology, battery size, and ultra-luxury positioning, industry experts expect the GV90 to command a significant premium over the current GV80 lineup.

The global rollout is particularly notable for emerging luxury markets. Hyundai Motor Group recently confirmed that the Genesis brand will officially enter the Indian market in 2027. While early reports suggest the brand will lead with locally assembled models like the GV80 and its Coupe variant, the GV90's existence sets a high ceiling for the brand's potential portfolio in the region. Even if the GV90 serves only as a low-volume halo car in certain markets, the technology it introduces will inevitably filter down to future Hyundai and Kia models.
