EV Car Sales in India February 2026: Top Selling Brands & VinFast Market Share

February 2026 saw a natural market correction in the EV car sales in India following a massive January push. While overall month-over-month (MoM) sales contracted across most major manufacturers—partially due to a shorter billing month—the hierarchy of the top selling EV cars in india 2026 remains fiercely competitive.

Tata, MG, and Mahindra continue to dominate the top three spots, but the most closely watched metric in the industry right now is VinFast sales in India, as the newcomer aggressively defends its position against legacy automakers.

Here is the comprehensive EV sales data breakdown for four-wheelers in February 2026.

The Top 3: Tata, MG, and Mahindra Lead the Charge

1. Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Tata remains the undisputed leader in the Indian electric car market, registering 5,274 units in February. While this is a dip from their impressive 8,256 units in January, their year-to-date (YTD) total stands at a massive 13,530 units. Much of the brand's sustained search interest and showroom footfall is being driven by anticipation and delivery fulfillment surrounding Harrier EV sales, alongside their staple Nexon and Punch models.

2. JSW MG Motor India MG Motor firmly retained the second spot with 3,175 units sold in February, bringing their YTD total to 8,026 units. MG’s strategy of aggressive pricing and tech-heavy offerings continues to pay off, with models like the Windsor EV and Comet pulling consistent volume in urban centers.

3. Mahindra Electric Automobile Mahindra secured the third position by moving 2,782 units for the month. With a two-month total of 6,592 units, Mahindra is successfully converting its traditional SUV customer base into early EV adopters as their "Born Electric" lineup expands.

The Disruptors: VinFast Sales in India & BYD's Growth

4. VinFast Auto India If you are tracking India EV market share, VinFast is the brand to watch. The Vietnamese automaker successfully defended its 4th-place ranking by registering 374 units in February, down slightly from 440 in January. With a YTD total of 814 units, VinFast is proving that Indian consumers are open to new players offering aggressive global styling and competitive battery tech, effectively outselling established brands like Hyundai and Kia in the EV space.

5. Hyundai & BYD India Hyundai maintained a steady presence with 292 units sold. However, the standout performance of the month belongs to BYD India. In a month where nearly every other manufacturer saw a MoM decline, BYD registered positive growth—climbing from 241 units in January to 290 units in February.

The Premium Segment and Emerging Challengers

  • Kia India: Registered 282 units, tracking closely behind sister-brand Hyundai.

  • BMW India: Continues to command the luxury electric segment, delivering 238 units and maintaining a significant lead over its German competitors.

  • Maruti Suzuki: Clocked 209 units for the month. As the industry anticipates wider rollouts of the eVitara, Maruti's EV sales data will be closely monitored in Q2.

  • Mercedes-Benz: Alongside BYD, Mercedes was the only other major brand to achieve MoM growth, increasing from 43 units to 47 units.

  • Tesla & Volvo: Rounding out the luxury import segment, Tesla recorded 28 units, while Volvo delivered 23 units.

Market Outlook for March 2026

As we look at the EV sales data heading into the close of the financial year, the market is maturing rapidly. Buyers are prioritizing range, technology, and immediate availability over legacy brand loyalty. Expect manufacturers to roll out aggressive retail benefits and fast-track deliveries in March to close FY26 on a high note.
