Delhi's New EV Scrappage Scheme: Get Up to ₹1 Lakh for Your Old Vehicle

In a major move to combat urban pollution and modernize the capital’s transport, the Delhi government has proposed a groundbreaking scrappage linked EV incentive scheme. By offering financial rewards of up to ₹1 lakh, the policy aims to bridge the price gap between traditional internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles and clean electric mobility.

While the policy covers various segments, industry experts suggest it will be a "game-changer" for last-mile connectivity and the electric three wheeler (E3W) market.

Key Incentives Under the Proposed Policy

The scheme is designed to reward owners of Delhi registered vehicles who scrap their old units at authorized facilities and transition to an EV within a six month window.

Vehicle Category

Cash Incentive

Additional Benefits

Electric Two Wheelers

₹10,000

Road Tax & Registration Fee Exemptions

Electric Three Wheelers

₹25,000

Lower Operating Costs

Electric Cars

Up to ₹1 Lakh

Significant Upfront Savings

Why Last-Mile Mobility is the Big Winner

The electric three wheeler segment has already emerged as the fastest growing EV category in India. These vehicles are the backbone of urban logistics and passenger transport. According to Ayush Lohia, CEO of Youdha, the new incentives address the primary hurdle for small operators: the upfront cost barrier.

"For commercial operators, the transition to electric mobility is not only about environmental benefits but also about long term operational savings," Lohia stated. He emphasized that the lower running costs of E3Ws make them a "practical pathway" for drivers who depend on these vehicles for their daily livelihoods.

Environmental Impact and City Modernization

Beyond the financial perks, the policy is a strategic tool for environmental reform. By encouraging the retirement of aging, high emission auto rickshaws and cargo vans, Delhi aims to:

  • Reduce Air Pollution: Removing older "gross polluters" from the streets.

  • Modernize Logistics: Replacing outdated fleets with smart, efficient electric alternatives.

  • Improve Air Quality: Accelerating the shift toward a zero emission ecosystem.

As Delhi continues to lead India's EV revolution, this scrappage linked model could serve as a blueprint for other Tier-1 cities looking to electrify their last mile transport systems.
