CESL to start 'EV As A Service’ initiative to introduce EVs in Gov’s vehicle lineup
The Union Minister of Power and Housing & Urban Affairs, Shri Manohar Lal, on Monday introduced Convergence Energy Services Limited, a subsidiary of Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), backed the “EV as a Service” initiative at Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium. The program is reported to be a significant step in increasing the use of EVs in government machinery.
Addressing the expanding demand for EVs in the government sector, CSEL is planning to deploy 5,000 electric vehicles in the upcoming next two years. The program will offer government officers a variety of options of EV brands which they can choose as per their operating requirements.
The update is another step towards India’s goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2070
CESL has already made great progress, with around 2,000 electric vehicles in circulation throughout the nation and an estimated 17,000 electric buses planned. It is expected that the project would increase India's energy security, reduce carbon emissions, and reduce reliance on fossil fuels. Shri Manohar Lal praised CESL's efforts, stating that the program is a perfect example of sustainable innovation and would expedite India's transition to greener transportation choices.
The inaugural event exhibited a range of e-mobility options, including an incredible electric vehicle display and an EV parade including over 100 electric vehicles. These included electric bicycles, electric two-wheelers, electric three-wheelers, electric four-wheelers, electric tractors, electric mobile charging vans, electric goods pickups, electric buses and electric trucks. The event was attended by EV makers, think tanks, and enthusiasts, as well as representatives from many ministries, including the Ministry of Power, Ministry of Heavy Industries, Department of Revenue, and Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs.
