Cargo Matters to Invest ₹66 Crore for 550+ EV Charging Stations Across South India’s Freight Corridors

In a major boost to India’s green logistics ecosystem, logistics major Cargo Matters has announced a strategic investment of ₹66 crore to establish a robust electric vehicle (EV) charging network. The project will see the deployment of over 550 smart, solar integrated charging stations across key freight corridors in South India.

Partnering with TRYK Charge Services, the initiative aims to eliminate the "infrastructure bottleneck" that currently hinders the mass adoption of electric trucks and heavy duty commercial vehicles (HCVs).

Strengthening India’s Electric Freight Corridors

The new charging network will be strategically spread across Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala. Unlike standard passenger vehicle points, this network is specifically designed to handle the high power requirements of commercial fleets.

Key Highlights of the Expansion:

  • Ultra-Fast Charging: The network will introduce 360 kW DC fast chargers, significantly reducing turnaround time for electric trucks and buses.

  • Multi-Standard Support: Stations will support global standards, including CCS2 and CHAdeMO, alongside standard AC charging options.

  • Green Energy Integration: The stations will be solar integrated and smart grid enabled, ensuring that the power used is as sustainable as the vehicles themselves.

  • Unified Access: A new RFID based charging card will allow fleet operators and individual EV owners single tap access across the entire network.

Bridging the Gap in Commercial EV Adoption

While the passenger EV segment has seen steady growth, the electrification of long haul logistics has been slowed by a lack of heavy duty charging points on highways.

Umesh Padala, Founder & Chairman of Cargo Matters, stated, "The bottleneck to scaling electric logistics in India is no longer the vehicles; it is the absence of reliable, heavy duty charging infrastructure on our freight corridors. This ₹66 crore investment is about securing India’s operational future."

Kulbhushan Gawande, CEO of TRYK Charge Services, added that the partnership would combine high end charging technology with real time analytics via a sophisticated Charge Point Operator (CPO) platform. This platform will also allow third party charger owners to list their devices, helping to unify a currently fragmented market.

Impact on the Indian EV Ecosystem

With a fleet of over 400 trucks and a reach across 15,000+ pincodes, Cargo Matters is well positioned to lead the shift toward e-logistics. By focusing on South India’s high traffic freight routes, this move is expected to encourage more fleet operators to transition from diesel to electric, potentially lowering operational costs and carbon footprints for major clients like Tata Steel and DHL.

As the Indian government continues to push for "Green Highways," investments like these from private players are critical to achieving the country’s Net Zero targets.
