BMW i7 Crosses 1,000 Unit Sales Milestone in India: Leading the Luxury EV Revolution
BMW India has achieved a landmark milestone as its flagship electric sedan, the BMW i7, surpassed the 1,000-unit sales mark. This achievement solidifies BMW’s position as the leader in India’s luxury electric vehicle (EV) segment.
In a significant boost to India’s transition toward sustainable luxury mobility, BMW Group India announced today that the BMW i7 has officially crossed the 1,000-unit sales milestone. Since its debut in 2023, the i7 has become the first all-electric luxury sedan in the country to reach this four-digit sales figure, reflecting a growing appetite for high-end electric mobility.
The "Forwardism" Success Story
The BMW i7 serves as the electric counterpart to the iconic 7 Series, combining avant-garde design with zero-emission performance. According to Hardeep Singh Brar, President and CEO, BMW Group India, the milestone is a "bold declaration of Forwardism," resonating with Indian customers who refuse to compromise on either luxury or sustainability.
The i7 is currently the second best-selling model in BMW’s Indian EV portfolio, trailing only the BMW iX1 SUV.
BMW i7 Performance and Range
The BMW i7 is available in India in two distinct trims, catering to both luxury-focused and performance-oriented buyers:
-
eDrive50 M Sport : Delivers 449 hp and 650 Nm of torque, with a 0–100 km/h sprint time of just 5.5 seconds.
-
xDrive M70 : The high-performance variant producing a massive 650 hp and 1,015 Nm of torque.
-
Range : Equipped with a 101.7 kWh battery pack, the i7 offers an impressive WLTP-claimed range of up to 603 km on a single charge, making it one of the most capable long-distance EVs in the luxury segment.
Redefining Cabin Luxury: The 31-Inch Theater Screen
One of the primary drivers for the i7’s popularity in India is its "Executive Lounge" experience. The cabin features a massive 31.3-inch 8K BMW Theater Screen that folds down from the roof, integrated with Amazon Fire TV to provide a cinema-like experience for rear passengers. This, combined with massaging seats and a 36-speaker Bowers & Wilkins Diamond Surround Sound System, has set a new benchmark for chauffeur-driven luxury.
BMW’s Dominance in the Indian EV Market
The success of the i7 is part of a larger trend for BMW India. In 2025, the company reported a staggering 200% year-on-year growth in EV sales, delivering 3,753 electric units. EVs now account for roughly 21% of BMW’s total sales in India, a figure that significantly leads rivals like Mercedes-Benz and Audi.
BMW i7 Price and Rivals in India
With a starting price of approximately ₹2.05 Crore (ex-showroom), the BMW i7 competes in the top-tier luxury bracket. Its primary competition includes:
-
Mercedes-Benz EQS
-
Audi e-tron GT
-
Porsche Taycan
As BMW continues to expand its charging infrastructure and product lineup, the 1,000-unit milestone for the i7 marks a clear shift in the Indian automotive landscape, where the elite are increasingly choosing "electric" as their preferred mode of luxury travel.
